Childhood Memories
Rockwell Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I don't know how I got here
But maybe I should do it all again
If only I had taken your advice
Then everything could be so much better
It seems just like yesterday
But yesterday was so long ago
Somebody help me
Make me human again
Somebody help me
Make me human again
I'm losing my childhood memories
I'm losing my childhood memories
I'm losing my childhood memories
I'm losing my childhood memories
I'm brand new
I'm brand new
I'm brand new
I'm brand new
I wish that I could be that little kid again for just one day
I wish that I could be that little kid again for just one day
I wish that I could be that little kid again for just one day
I wish that I could be that little kid again for just one day
The answer, always on the tip of my tongue
But it changes right in front of my eyes
Maybe I could have another chance
To make you feel satisfied
Somebody help me
Make me human again
Somebody help me

Make me human again
I'm losing my childhood memories

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Rockwell's song "Childhood Memories" depict the singer's longing to relive his childhood days. He expresses regret for not heeding someone's advice in the past and feels that his present life could have been better if only he had. He laments the passage of time, feeling as if yesterday was so far away. The repeated refrain of "I'm losing my childhood memories" depicts his distress at feeling that he is losing those precious moments from his past, and the chorus of "I'm brand new" suggests a desire to start over and recapture those moments. The bridge of the song speaks of the frustration of trying to find the answer but finding it changing constantly, and the hope for a second chance to make things right.

The lyrics evoke a sense of nostalgia and wistfulness, as if the singer is looking back on his life with a sense of regret or loss. The repetition of the phrase "somebody help me make me human again" suggests a desire to return to a simpler time, perhaps with less responsibility and fewer worries. It is a common sentiment, as many people look back on their childhood days with fondness and wish to relive them.

Overall, "Childhood Memories" is a song that captures the bittersweet feeling of watching time pass and knowing that you can never go back. The singer's desire to recapture his childhood moments is something many listeners can relate to, making the song a poignant and resonant reminder of the fleeting nature of life.

A decade later and still bumping it, so crazy how after all these years the act of listening to this song now elicits the exact sensation that the song was written about.. is this meta nostalgia

This song blows my mind. Seriously the production is insane!

@Stereo4

Agreed! This has been my favorite song since it came out, and it still is. The production is just unreal. Nothing I've heard comes close production-wise. Not even other Rockwell tracks!
