Hola
Rodrigo and Gabriela Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I still picture your smile
Beneath the moonlit sky

I had to remain calm
It was too much for my heart

I still remember once or twice
I felt like calling you "mine"

Girl, I love you so
Oh

Drowned along the way
All remains the same
Between You and I

Delirar por ti

Maybe it all falls where it belongs

Still It does not feel wrong

Did it matter all along?

We had something so strong
Nothing ever lasts too long

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Rodrigo and Gabriela's song "Hola" convey a sense of longing and nostalgia. The first two lines, "I still picture your smile, beneath the moonlit sky," suggest that the singer still holds memories of a person they once loved. The phrase "Beneath the moonlit sky" adds a poetic and romantic atmosphere to these memories.

The following lines, "I had to remain calm, It was too much for my heart," reveal that these memories and feelings were intense and overwhelming for the singer. They had to maintain their composure, perhaps to protect themselves from getting hurt or to move on from the situation.

"I still remember once or twice, I felt like calling you 'mine'" demonstrates that there were moments when the singer desired a deeper connection with the person they once loved. The repetition of "I still" signifies that these memories and feelings are still present, even if time has passed.

The chorus, "Girl, I love you so, Oh," expresses the singer's lingering love and affection for this person. Despite any distance or complications that may have arisen, they still hold strong feelings for them.

The lines "Drowned along the way, all remains the same, between you and I, delirar por ti" suggest that the intensity of their love might have caused some difficulties or conflicts along their journey. However, despite these challenges, it seems that the bond between the singer and the person they loved remains unchanged.

The last two lines, "Maybe it all falls where it belongs, still it does not feel wrong," convey a sense of acceptance and resignation. The singer acknowledges that things may have happened as they were meant to, and although the relationship may not have lasted, it still holds a sense of significance and rightness. The final lines, "We had something so strong, nothing ever lasts too long," encapsulate the overarching theme of impermanence and the bittersweet nature of love.

Overall, "Hola" explores themes of longing, nostalgia, and the lingering emotions associated with a past love. It captures both the intensity and the fleeting nature of romantic connections, leaving listeners with a mix of sadness and appreciation for the memories.

Amazing how 2 people with literally nothing more than 2 acoustic guitars can keep an audience of thousands spellbound. No light show, no special effects, nothing but their virtuosity and their passion for and the power of their music.

Andrew Schmidt

not trying to harsh your vibe, but they clearly also use effect pedals off stage controlled by some stage hands. The sound is not pure acoustic

I feel like Gabriella pulls most of the weight. Not to discredit Rodrigo, hes got style too.

@Andrew Schmidt you ever see them live?

juzek1958

I think their primary effect is very high gain.

@Andrew Schmidt: True...but a little back stage assistance takes nothing away from what is being said does it? Not one flash pot was exploded to entertain! Just a man, a woman, and a couple of guitars. Even if aided by electronics....well....to be able to do that is impressive. ;-)

Man, I just saw them live last night for the first time. I thought this video was amazing, but it doesn't even do them any justice. You all have to see them live if you can. They're phenomenal.
