Bye Bye Baby
Roger Mcguinn & Gene Clark Lyrics

Inside her woman's body is the soul of a child
Like the seasons she's changing like a bird soaring high
Ah, you can't help but love her when you look in her eyes
I won her I lost her and I won her back again
Between all the heartaches we got to be friends
Now I know I can't hold her she's got to be free
Sayin' so long
Bye bye, bye bye, bye bye baby
So long, bye bye
So long bye bye, bye bye, bye bye baby
So long, bye bye
She's a loner a high roller has her mind set to win
Forty-seven's her number and she'll make it come in
When she's shining bright like a star in the sky
She will be where she's goin' and she'll finally know why
She kicks up her heels like a filly runnin' wild
Inside her woman's body is the soul of a child
Like the seasons she's changing like a bird soaring high
Ah, you can't help but love her when you look in her eyes
Sayin' so long
Bye bye, bye bye, bye bye baby
So long, bye bye
So long bye bye, bye bye, bye bye baby
So long, bye bye
The song "Bye Bye Baby" by Roger McGuinn and Gene Clark seems to describe a woman who is free-spirited, constantly changing and cannot be held down. The lyrics suggest that she has the essence of a child within her no matter her age, always running wild like a filly. She is constantly evolving, like the seasons or a bird soaring high. Despite her unpredictable nature, the singer cannot help but love her when he looks in her eyes.
The lyrics also portray a sense of a push-and-pull relationship between the two. The singer has won her back before, but also acknowledges that he cannot possess her as she needs to be free like a swift flowing river that runs to the sea. The woman is determined and confident, with her mind set to win, always chasing the next challenge, shining like a star in the sky.

always liked this song, though, like all of the songs on that debut mc&h album it was over-produced by the studio heads looking for hit singles and commercial success. These efforts lead to a #33 single, Don't You Write Her Off. Not sure it was worth it. The songs would have sounded better if these guys could have done the songs the Byrds way!

+KC Cramsey totally agree!

This song is so much better than the studio one. Wish these guys just would have recorded these songs like this instead of trying to Bee Gee their sound with Disco. They had such a classic sound. Don't mess with it. I blame the producers talking them into that terrible sounding record.

I TOTALLY AGREE, Padraig. Just Gene and Roger are my favorite version of the Byrds after the first 2 albums. Gene's voice and songs and Roger's guitar and wonderful harmony singing.
