New World in the Morning
Roger Whittaker Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Everybody talks about a new world in the morning. A new world in the morning so they say.
I, myself don't talk about a new world in the morning. A new world in the morning, that's today.
And I can feel a new tomorrow comin' on.
And I don't know why I have to make a song. Everybody talks a bout a new world in the morning. New world in the morning takes so long.
I met a man who had a dream he had since he was twenty. I met that man when he was eighty-one. He said too many

people just stand and wait up til the mornin', Don't they know tomorrow never comes.
And he would feel a new tomorrow coming on. And when he'd smile his eyes would twinkle up in thought. Everybody talks about a new world in the morning. New world in the morning never comes.
And I can feel a new tomorrow coming on.

And I don't know why I have to make a song. Everybody talks about a new world in the morning. New world in the morning takes so long.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Roger Whittaker's song "New World In The Morning" are full of insightful observations about the concept of a new day and a new world. The opening lines suggest that many people speak of a new world in the morning, but the singer himself does not. Instead, he embraces the idea that today is a new world, and every day presents new opportunities and possibilities. The repetition of this theme throughout the song emphasizes the importance of living in the present, rather than being fixated on some far-off future.

One of the most poignant lines in the song comes from the man the singer meets, who had a dream since he was twenty but didn't fulfill it until he was eighty-one. He laments that too many people wait around for tomorrow, not realizing that tomorrow never comes. This underscores the importance of taking action and seizing opportunities in the present, rather than putting things off in the hopes that some ideal future will arrive.

Overall, "New World In The Morning" is a reminder of the beauty and possibility of each new day, and the importance of embracing the present and pursuing one's dreams with determination and purpose.
