They are also featured on the Stubbs: The Zombie Soundtrack doing a cover of Buddy Holly's "Everyday". A live version of their Out of the Shadow track, "Every Moment", appeared on the soundtrack for the movie Napoleon Dynamite. However, the song never appeared in the movie itself. In addition, the song "Eyes" was featured twice in the Ryan Reynolds movie Just Friends this fall, and the first episode of NBC's Heroes. The Fox show The O.C. has used Rogue Wave songs, "Publish My Love" (DLV) and "Interruptions" (10:1 EP) as well as included "Publish My Love" on The O.C. Mix 5, a collection of songs used in the show. Rogue Wave recently recorded an exclusive song for the new movie, "Spiderman 3".
Until very recently, the band lineup consisted of Zach Rogue (Vocals, Guitar), Pat Spurgeon (Drums, Samples, Guitar, Vocals), Gram Lebron (Keyboards, Guitar, Drums, Vocals) and Evan Farrell (Bass, Vocals). Farrell replaced original bassist Sonya Westcott in Autumn of 2004. Unfortunately, in December 2007, bassist Farrell passed away in a house fire. A link to the memorial paypal fund set up to help support the Farrell family can be found on the band's website www.roguewavemusic.com. Their new bassist is Patrick Abernethy.
Zach Rogue was previously a guitarist in the Bay Area band The Desoto Reds. Pat Spurgeon has played with bands Antenna, Stranded at the Drive In, Ramona the Pest, Brando, Steve Kowalski, and has also released solo work as The Phantom Drummer. Gram Lebron has been involved in the bands: Schrasj, Sad Like Crazy, Conundrum, Jessica Six, All Transistor and has also released solo work as Golden Gram. Evan Farrell has played with the following bands: Japonize Elephants, Mega Mousse, Amaldecor, Big Mule, Hunted Haunted Bazergahn Klezmorchestra, Grande Rouge, Kentucky Nightmare, and Mama HooHoo. Sonya Westcott was in the band Venus Bleeding prior to her time with Rogue Wave and is currently working on an album with her new project.
Most recently, Rogue Wave released Asleep At Heaven's Gate in September of 2007. They are currently wrapping up their US winter tour to start their European tour. They plan to tour the states again in April 2008.
Rogue wave is set to release a new LP in March of 2010 named Permalight.
Harmonium
Rogue Wave Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
the air is wasted
the lamb lies down for our entertainment
some mother's son
crashed at the pavement
his little eyes gone
we're one in the same man
now you know you never waste it
i hear your voice, there's no emotion
did something die
you're not even responsive
when we were young we'd bottle water
collect reptile bones, commence the slaughter
now you know you never waste it
now you know you're wasted
all your dreams thrown in the trash
you were born into war
you were taught not to ask
for every single possibility
moving shadows in the dark
deciding fates over cocktail lunch
every single possibility
we better bust them out
you better bust them out
heart attacks won't get us down
our rifle butts pressed in the ground
our brains are lost, our skulls are found
we're kicking up the dust above them
The lyrics of "Harmonium" by Rogue Wave describe a bleak outlook on life and the world, highlighted by the sense of waste that permeates the song. The air is thick and wasted, and even the lamb lies down for our entertainment, suggesting that nothing is sacred or valuable. The mention of a mother's son crashing on the pavement with his little eyes gone is a tragic image that reinforces this sentiment. The repetition of the phrase "now you know you're wasted" in each verse drives home the idea that life is fleeting and often taken for granted.
The second verse begins with the singer's attempt to connect with someone emotionally but to no avail. They seem dead inside, as if something has died and they are no longer responsive. The reference to collecting reptile bones and commencing slaughter in their youth is a disturbing image that hints at a darker side of human nature. The verse ends with the same refrain as the first, reminding us once again that we are all wasted.
The final verse is a bit more hopeful, encouraging us to bust out of our limitations and not let heart attacks or other setbacks get us down. The reference to rifle butts and kicking up dust suggests a sense of rebellion, as if we are ready to fight against complacency and apathy.
Overall, "Harmonium" paints a bleak picture of a world where everything is wasted and nothing seems to matter. It is a call to action to fight against this sense of futility and find a way to live fully and passionately.
