It's just an image of yourself
To save the song you can be tough
You're just a picture on my shelf
An empty frame that's left behind
Cause you took everything away
I played the game, o.k. I'm fine
A minute before you leave
Before you close that door
Think it over, I think it's over
A minute before you leave
Before you close that door
Think it over, I think it's over
(Before you leave, before you leave)
There's no way out, it's way too loud
It's like poison in the air
If you come back to me, you come back to me
I don't really care
If you come back to me, you come back to me
I don't really care
A minute before you leave
Before you close that door
Think it over, I think it's over
A minute before you leave
Before you close that door
Think it over, I think it's over
(Before you leave, before you leave)
My part in this game is that I will never be the same
My heart just called your name
My part in this game is that I will never be the same
And my heart just called your name
A minute before you leave
Before you close that door
Think it over, I think it's over
A minute before you leave
Before you close that door
Think it over, I think it's over
(Before you leave, before you leave)
The lyrics of Roman Lob's song A Minute Before tell a story of lost love and regret. The singer addresses their former lover, who is about to leave for good. The first stanza indicates that the other person is just a mere image of themselves, and they are now just a picture on their shelf. It implies that the person is no longer a substantial part of their life, and their memory would soon fade away. The second stanza portrays the emptiness they feel, as the person has taken everything from them, and now they are only a loser in the game of love.
In the chorus, they plead with the other person to take a minute before they leave, to think things over. They assert that they believe it's over but, at the same time, wish to reconcile or at least want to know that the other person has considered things clearly before they end it. The next verse presents a feeling of hopelessness; the singer accepts that the other person is gone, and if they return, it wouldn't matter much to them. The final stanza sees a reference to the game of love, with the singer admitting their role in it and realizing that they have been changed by the experience.
