Cocaine
Romy Haag Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Ich kam von New York nach Berlin
Drei Koffer voll mit Kokain –
Cocaine, all around my brain!
Cocaine, all around my brain!

Oh, Papa, komm schnell her
Halt mich fest, ich kann nicht mehr –
Cocaine, ya, all around my brain!

Cocaine, all around my Brain!
"Schatz", sagt er, "rate mal, was kitzelt so schön
Cocaine, all around my brain!

Oh, Papa, komm schnell her
Halt mich fest, ich kann nicht mehr –
Cocaine, all around my brain!

Cocaine, all around my brain!
Cocaine, all around my brain!

Oh, oh, Papa, komm schnell her
Halt mich fest, ich kann nicht mehr –
Cocaine, Cocaine, Cocaine

All around my young and beautyful
And healthy, ha, ha, but dirty old brain brain!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Cocaine" by Romy Haag tell a story of a woman who has moved from New York to Berlin with three suitcases full of cocaine. She is desperately addicted to the drug, as are her husband and son. She hears the drug speaking to her, tempting her, and the chorus repeats over and over again: "Cocaine, all around my brain." The woman's husband, Joachim, asks her to guess what is tickling his nose and tastes like "arsenic" but he knows the answer is cocaine. The woman's son is only twelve years old but is already addicted to the drug, and she tries to forbid him from using it so that he can learn to walk. The woman's maid has been dealing drugs and now drives a Jaguar instead of cleaning toilets. The woman calls for her father to come and hold her, as she can no longer resist the pull of cocaine in her life.
