Walking in the Rain
Ronettes (the) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I want him, and I need him,
And someday someway woo I'll meet him
He'll be kind of shy, and real good lookin' too
And I'll be certain he's my guy by the things he'll like to do

Like walking in the rain (like walking in the rain)
And wishing on the stars (and wishing on the stars) up above
And being so in love

When he's near me, I'll kiss him,
And when he leaves me woo I'll miss him
Though sometimes we'll fight, I won't really care
And I'll know it's gonna be alright 'cause we've got so much we share

Like walking in the rain (like walking in the rain)
And wishing on the stars (and wishing on the stars) up above
And being so in love

(Johnny) no no he'll never do
(Bobby) no it isn't him too
They would never no they'd never never ever ever love
Walking in the rain (like walking in the rain)
And wishing on the stars (and wishing on the stars) up above
And being so in love

Oh oh oh where can he be oh oh

Overall Meaning

The Ronettes' "Walking in the Rain" is a song about the love and longing of a woman for a man she has yet to meet. She is hopeful to find someone who is shy, good-looking, and shares the same interests as her, such as walking in the rain, wishing on stars, and being in love. The lyrics are romantic and optimistic, bringing to life the excitement and anticipation of a future love affair.

The song's melody is upbeat and has a distinctive "wall of sound" production style that was popular in the early 1960s. The arrangement features string instruments, percussion, and harmonizing backup vocals that make the song feel larger than life. The melody and lyrics are a perfect match, with the chorus of "walking in the rain" and "wishing on the stars" being catchy and memorable.

Interestingly, the song was written by Phil Spector, Ellie Greenwich, and Jeff Barry, who were all prominent songwriters in the 1960s. Phil Spector produced the song, which was released in 1964 as a single with "How Does It Feel?" as the B-side. The song became a hit in the US and the UK, and was later covered by several artists, including Jay and the Americans, and Grace Jones.

Overall, the lyrics of "Walking in the Rain" paint a picture of a dreamy love story, while the melody and instrumentation transport the listener to a luxurious, magical place. The song stands the test of time and remains a classic example of the girl group sound of the 1960s.

@Alissa Reminiec; I don't remember which station it was, KRLA or KFWB down in LA County. Anyway, every morning when my clock radios alarm went off, I would awaken to the beautiful harmony of The Ronnetts singing this song, "Walking In The Rain".
I fell in love with that girl group and still listen to their music today. Geez, I sure feel old.
