Joel attended the Ljungskile College of Music, concentrating on jazz drumming in 2007. However, he was still attracted to rock music, and during his college time, he also improved his singing, music production, and instrumental talents beyond drumming.
Berghult started his YouTube channel in 2010. In 2014, he rose to prominence by uploading a series of celebrity singer impressions. The first of which was titled "One Guy, 14 Voices" which became the first of Berghult's many viral videos. The next year Berghult released a follow up "One Guy, 15 Voices" in August 2015. He was subsequently invited to perform on Nyhetsmorgon in September 2015, followed by Good Morning America that October. The most recent of the series, released in 2017 is "One Guy, 43 Voices (with music)" which has over 96 million views and is Berghult's most viewed video as of December 2022.
In 2014, Berghult began to release music with fellow Swedish YouTuber PewDiePie (who is also a Gothenburg native). The single "His Name is Pewdiepie" was released in 2014 and was made using samples of PewDiePie's voice; later that year, "Fabulous" was released, followed by "Brofist" in 2016. In 2019, Berghult again teamed up with PewDiePie and longtime collaborator Boyinaband on the song "Congratulations". The song peaked at number one on the US Comedy Digital Track Sales published by Billboard and has over 200 million views on YouTube as of 2021.
In December 2019, Berghult uploaded daily videos as part of a series called "Daily December". In response to positive feedback, he continued releasing daily videos. He grew discontent with the daily upload schedule, and announced a hiatus from YouTube on 11 June 2020, which lasted until 22 July. On 20 July 2020, while still on break, Berghult released an album single "Livin' For That" on Spotify under the name "Lil Pitchy". The album consists of the song "Livin' For That", plus its instrumental and a cappella versions. On 31 May 2021, Berghult announced another hiatus from YouTube. He cited fatigue from uploading daily videos, and wanting to shift focus to larger-scale projects. He ended that hiatus on 28 September, with the video "We Bought 100 Microphones To Do This...".
Ugly
Roomie Lyrics

Ain't so bad, no it ain't so bad being ugly (ugly)
Wished I was taller
My nose was smaller
Wished I knew what to say
The tabloid's saying
I'm not ok and
That I should change but no way
Gotta work what I've got
There are so many lies in a perfect disguise
Do you know what is real?
Ain't so bad, no it ain't so bad being ugly (ugly)
Ain't so bad, no it ain't so bad being ugly (ugly)
All my life I've tried being other guys
But I don't want to change anymore
Ain't so bad being ugly
No satisfaction
Is my reaction
To the things that I see
Because I realize I don't need greener eyes
Gotta work what I've got
There are so many lies in a perfect disguise
Do you know what is real?
Ain't so bad, no it ain't so bad being ugly (ugly)
Ain't so bad, no it ain't so bad being ugly (ugly)
Who ever said that perfection is not
All of the things that you've already got
Try to be you, yeah just give it a shot
It ain't so bad
It ain't so bad
Ain't so bad, no it ain't so bad being ugly (ugly)
Ain't so bad, no it ain't so bad being ugly (ugly)
All my life I've tried being other guys
But I don't want to change anymore
Ain't so bad being ugly
In "Ugly" by Roomie, the artist explores the concept of self-acceptance and the social pressure to conform to conventional beauty standards. The chorus repeats the phrase "Ain't so bad, no it ain't so bad being ugly" as a confident and empowering statement that goes against the societal expectations of physical attractiveness.
The verses delve deeper into the insecurities and self-doubt that come with not fitting into the mold of what is considered attractive. Roomie expresses his personal struggles with his height, nose size, and social abilities. The tabloids portray him as not okay and urge him to change, but he resists that pressure and realizes that he doesn't need to change anything about himself to be happy.
He acknowledges that the world is full of lies in its perfect disguise, and encourages listeners to embrace their true selves and work with what they've got. He asserts that there is no satisfaction in trying to be someone else, and it's not worth it to strive for perfection when it's already within our reach.
Overall, Roomie's "Ugly" is a relatable anthem that challenges the stigmatization of physical appearance and encourages self-love and acceptance.
