Echoes
Roosevelt Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm running away
With you on my mind
Yeah, I need to get out of this
Out of your sight
You're beginning to play
Your tricks on my mind
Can we find a way out of this
Got to win the fight

When time has no meaning
Lost in a feeling
Where do we go from here

Where's your devotion
Strangest emotion
You made it reappear

I still hear the echoes
Feels like we're slipping away
But maybe tonight we can
Leave the past behind

I still hear the echoes
Feels like we're slipping away
Yeah, maybe tonight we can
Leave it all behind

I remember a time
With you by my side
Bringing back all the memory
Start to fall apart
Committed a crime
As dark as the night
You know you were the remedy
To my broken heart

When time has no meaning
Lost in a feeling
Where do we go from here

Where's your devotion
Strangest emotion
You made it reappear

I still hear the echoes
Feels like we're slipping away
But maybe tonight we can
Leave the past behind

Still hear the echoes
Feels like we're slipping away
Yeah, maybe tonight we can
Leave it all behind

In the haze of the sun
Don't fall behind
Let's make this right
Back to where it begun
'Cause in these golden lights
We'll come alive

In the haze of the sun
Don't fall behind
Let's make this right
Back to where it begun

'Cause in these golden lights
We'll come alive

Overall Meaning

In Roosevelt's song "Echoes," he talks about running away from someone who is constantly playing tricks on his mind, and his need to get out of their sight. He asks where they can go from here, and questions their devotion and the strangest emotion they make him feel. However, he also remembers the moments when they were together, and how they were the remedy to his broken heart. The chorus repeats the line "I still hear the echoes," as Roosevelt feels like they are slipping away. But he hopes that maybe tonight they can leave the past behind and start anew.

The lyrics explore the complexities of a relationship that is going through a tumultuous period. Roosevelt's desire to move on from the past and start fresh is palpable throughout the song. He seems unsure of where they stand but is willing to give it another chance. The golden lights mentioned in the final lines of the song symbolize a new beginning and the hope of a better future.

Rhythm FM

This guy is amazing.... What I find so annoying about the so called industry is a talented guy like this is not played on commercial radio in the UK. His last single with Nile Rodgers was played for 1 week on Radio 2. Then on Heart it was played ONCE! maybe TWICE? You will not find this on Capital. Not that I listen to Capital but a lot of people I know in the radio industry will not play it. How SAD is this. I hope one day this guy gets the airplay he deserves.

MoneyDawg

Agreed. Roosevelt is incredible at what he does. Trumps essentially anything that’s played on the radio nowadays.

DonnyJ

Does Roosevelt ever disappoint?!

Estheban Saldana
