The first release by the band, Remain Sedate, shows the band's sound at a stage when they played fast, dissonant metalcore with raspy vocals. As the band progressed, they developed a slower, more sludge style sound that was influenced by New York band Swans. Vocals evolved into high-pitched screaming instead of shouting, due in part to voice problems Maggio was experiencing at the time. This change in sound can be heard on their second album, Protestant. Shortly after, the group disbanded, some members joining Deadguy and Kiss It Goodbye.
Rorschach has performed occasional reunion shows from 2009 through 2012. Decibel magazine inducted Protestant into their Hall of Fame. Rorschach's song "Pavlov's Dogs" is depicted in the 2012 film Zero Dark Thirty.
Someone
Rorschach Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
No identity
Finding it hard
To cope with reality
Taking over
The greater majority
A lack of confidence
Is all that I see
Someone to confide in
Someone to believe in
That's what you seek
My mind is mine
I won't partake
In petty rituals
For traditions sake
When I'm forced to choose
And the choice I make is right
I'll take the credit
Not some spiritual insight
Someone to confess to
Someone to confide in
Someone to believe in
That's what you seek
The lyrics to Rorschach's song "Someone" delve into the topic of insecurity and the search for something or someone to confide in and believe in. The opening lines "Insecurity, no identity, finding it hard to cope with reality" paint a picture of someone struggling with their sense of self-worth and struggling to navigate the world around them. The lyrics then speak to the idea of how this struggle can be taken over by the majority and how a lack of confidence can be all-consuming.
The chorus speaks directly to the desire for a confidant and someone to believe in. It seems the singer is searching for a deeper connection with another person, someone they can trust and share their thoughts and feelings with. However, the final verse showcases a certain level of self-reliance as the singer proclaims that their mind is their own and they won't conform to societal pressures. They're willing to take credit for their own choices and not rely on spiritual guidance.
Overall, "Someone" speaks to the human experience of feeling lost, insecure, and in need of connection. It showcases the struggle to find oneself and maintain a sense of individuality while still seeking meaningful connections with others.
