Fairy tale
Rosé Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Damsel
Of this greatest story
White doves
Floating in the moonlight

Roses
Flying in the flowing
Castles
Flood by candle lights, yeah!

He's a light knight
Whole in shining armour
He's a hero
Coming to protect her

Cold thrives
When the hot may send us
Strained eyes
Following her steps

Princess
Once upon a time
Slowly waiting
To receive the kiss, yeah!

He's a light knight
Whole in shining armour
He's a hero
Coming to protect her

(Born in this fantasy world)
Is she dreaming?
Nothing's what it seems now

(Born in this fantasy world)
Snog my horse, he's with me
Can live happy and dream

More seas
Flowing all around
White mills
Gather raining clouds

Nice swirl
Dreaming up a lover
Waiting
For his horse to rise, yeah!

He's a light knight
Whole in shining armour
He's a hero
Coming to protect her

(Born in this fantasy world)
Is she dreaming?
Nothing's what it seems now

(Born in this fantasy world)
Snog my horse, he's with me
Can live happy and dream

(Born in this fantasy world)
Is she dreaming?
Nothing's what it seems now

(Born in this fantasy world)

Snog my horse, he's with me
Can live happy and dream

Overall Meaning

The song "Fairy Tale" by Rose takes on the form of a medieval fairy tale. The lyrics describe a "damsel" in a story surrounded by "white doves" and "roses" with "castles" flooded with candlelights. The lyrics describe the arrival of a "light knight" in "shining armor" who comes to protect the vulnerable princess. The song portrays the journey of the princess in waiting for the kiss which she's slowly waiting to receive. While the song seems to be a straightforward love story, there is a hint of confusion due to the repeated lyrics of "is she dreaming" and "snog my horse, he's with me." The song ends with the princess waiting, dreaming of her lover, protected by her hero in shining armor.

The lyrics take on a poetic form, using language and imagery from the medieval period. The "white doves," "roses," and "castles" are common symbols in medieval storytelling, often used to represent purity, love, and nobility. The use of the "light knight" and "shining armor" is also common in medieval romances and fairy tales. The use of questioning lyrics of "is she dreaming" adds another layer to the song, questioning the reality of the fantasy world portrayed in the fairy tale.

I love this song. It sounds heroic and epic. For me it is one of the best songs of the 80's. Many congratulations to Roberto Zanetti ''Savage'' and Elena Ferretti. Multi BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I hear this song I feel like I’ve been transported to a 1980s dark fantasy film, running down the halls of a medieval castle lit by candlelight or an enchanted forest in a white gown

When I was a teenager at '80s I listen to this song and others like it and they mesmerized me. However it was so sad I didn't know where I can find them to listen again and again. Until you tube make this possible. Now, after so many years I can enjoy this music again and again.
