Where the Heart Is
Rosie and Me Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Home is where you are
This town feels like it's stone cold
All the year round
And no one waves you when you're passing by
Like they could see the sorrow in your eyes
So won't you come around, love?
'cause you've got a smile that lights up the room
I don't care for much as long as i have you here
Home is where the heart is
Home is where you are
This town could never trick us
Neither bring us down
And no one waves you when you're passing by
Like they could see the sorrow in your eye
So won't you come around
So won't you come around, love?
The opening lines of Rosie and Me's song "Where the Heart Is" emphasize that home is not a place, but rather where someone's heart is. This sentiment is further underscored with the repetition of "Home is where you are." The song seems to be written from the perspective of someone who has moved to a new town, which they find to be cold and uninviting. Throughout the year, the town remains unemotional and distant towards them, causing the singer to feel alone and isolated.
The lyrics "no one waves you when you're passing by, like they could see the sorrow in your eyes" paints a very vivid picture of realizing that you don't belong somewhere, as strangers don't even acknowledge your presence. The song takes a romantic turn as the singer begs their lover to come and join them in this new town because "you've got a smile that lights up the room" and the fact that the other person's presence is all they need to call this new town 'home'. The overall message seems to be that the only way to make a place feel like home is to have someone you love with you, someone who brings warmth and comfort to wherever you may be.
