Enuma Elish

APSU
TIAMUT
LAHMU AND LAHAM
ANSAR AND KISAR
ANU
NUDIMMUD

When on high the heaven, had not be named
Firm ground below was unnamed

APSU
TIAMUT
LAHMU AND LAHAM
ANSAR AND KISAR
ANU
NUDIMMUD

When on high the heaven, had not be named
Firm ground below was unnamed
Mummu Tiamat she who bore them
Naught primordial Apsu their begetter

(CHORUS)
And the earth has been done and the life has just begun
and the formless void and darkness outdone
And the water has been done and the sky raised up
separating the water the genesis goes on
And the greater light has been done and the lesser light spun
to rule the day and night together with the stars
And the living creatures has been done
and the sea monsters have born
and everything that moves with which the waters swarm
She made the Worm the Dragon
The Female Monster the Great Lion
The Mad Dog the Man Scorpion
The Howling Storm

(CHORUS)

And the greater light has been done
and the lesser light spun

to rule the day and night
together with the stars

Overall Meaning

The song "Enuma Elish" by Rotting Christ refers to the Babylonian creation myth of the same name. The lyrics mention various deities of this myth, such as Apsu, Tiamut, Lahmu, Laham, Ansar, Kisar, Anu, and Nudimmud. The myth starts with Apsu, the freshwater, and Tiamut, the saltwater, creating the first generation of gods known as Lahmu and Laham. They had a son named Anshar, who had a son named Anu. Anu and his lover, the goddess Ki, give birth to a son named Nudimmud. However, the story takes a dark turn when Apsu decides that his children are too loud and wants to kill them. Tiamut disagrees with her husband, and the two deities go to war.

The song speaks of the creation of the earth and the separation of the sky and the waters. It talks of the greater and lesser lights, the sun, and the moon, and the creatures that were created. In the chorus, the singer relates that the earth has been created, and life has just begun. The formless void and darkness have been replaced by something new, and the water has been separated from the sky. The genesis continues with the birth of living creatures and sea monsters, including the Worm, the Dragon, the Great Lion, the Mad Dog, the Man Scorpion, and the Howling Storm.

In conclusion, "Enuma Elish" by Rotting Christ delves into the Babylonian creation myth, discussing the creation of earth and the various creatures that came with it. It speaks of the deities mentioned in the story and the war that broke out between them.

When on high the heaven had not been named,

Firm ground below had not been called by name,

Naught but primordial Apsu, their begetter,

(And) Mummu†-Tiamat, she who bore them all, Their waters commingling as a single body;

No reed hut had been matted, no marsh land had appeared,

When no gods whatever had been brought into being,

Uncalled by name, their destinies undetermined—

Then it was that the gods were formed within them.

I’ve always loved their use of the Azan here - it gives a massive dimension of etherealism and atmosphere. Absolute work of art.

Frostimisticus

Yesss me too, only they could've come up with something like that✊🖤

Indeed sounds magnificent, but as in my other comment, I think it is more of an ancient near east styled choir, hymn or something. You can hear a similar background "azan" sound in their song called "ahura mazda/angra mainu", and i dont think its azan at all. Just my opinion.

Wow, something this epic couldn't even come from Norway! There something about Greek metal that stands out more than any other.

For all those who do not know Enuma Elish is Babilonian epic story about creation. It is very interesting mythology. It has even some little similarities with creation according to Genesis. This band has a great music, but I don´t agree with the name of the band and other themes. But, God created us as His icons, as free persons (prosopona), so it is personal decision to go to geena (hell) or to choose Love in Heavenly Empire (vasilie uranou). Greetings to all people! God bless! :)
