Roxy Music became a successful act in Europe and Australia during the 1970s. This success began with their self-titled debut studio album in 1972. The band pioneered more musically sophisticated elements of glam rock while significantly influencing early English punk music, and provided a model for many new wave acts while innovating elements of electronic composition. The group also conveyed their distinctive brand of visual and musical sophistication with their focus on glamorous fashions. Ferry and co-founding member Eno have had influential solo careers. Eno became one of the most significant British record producers of the late 20th century. Rolling Stone originally ranked Roxy Music No. 98 on their greatest artists list ("The Immortals – The 100 Greatest Artists of All Time"), but dropped the group from the list when they updated it in 2011.
Roxy Music's final studio album was Avalon (1982), which was certified Platinum in the United States. In 2005, the band began recording what would have become their ninth studio album—and their first album with Eno since 1973 (he wrote two songs for it and also played keyboards). However, Ferry eventually announced that the material from these sessions would instead be released as a Ferry solo studio album, with Eno playing on "a couple of tracks", and that he believed the group would never again produce a record as Roxy Music. The album was released in 2010 as the Ferry solo studio album Olympia. It featured contributions from Eno, Manzanera, and Mackay (amongst many other session players).
In 2011, Roxy Music played a series of 40th-anniversary shows, but went inactive as a performing entity following the concerts. In 2019, Roxy Music were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
In 2022, Roxy Music reformed for a tour to mark the 50th anniversary of their debut studio album.

Same Old Scene
Roxy Music Lyrics

Of that I'm sure
Now you've made an offer
I'll take some more
Young loving may be
Oh so mean
Will I still survive
In our lighter moments
precious few
It's all that heavy weather
We're going through
When I turn the corner
I can't believe
It's still the same old movie
That's haunting me
Young loving may be
Oh so mean
Trying to revive
The same old scene
Young loving may be
So extreme
Maybe we should try
The same old scene [Repeats]
Nothings last forever
Of that I'm sure
Now you've made an offer
I'll take some more
The song "Same Old Scene" by Roxy Music is a commentary on the repetitive, mundane nature of life and relationships. The lyrics open with the somber realization that nothing lasts forever, a notion that is universally agreed upon. However, the singer remains unsatisfied with life and, when presented with an opportunity to indulge in something more, eagerly takes on the new experience. This could represent our tendency to seek out new experiences in life, whether it be in relationships or other areas, in search of something more meaningful or exciting.
The chorus is a reflection of the introspective thoughts that creep in during quiet, introspective moments. Despite moments of levity, there is an underlying sense of heaviness, a feeling that something is off. The singer is aware that the circumstances haven't changed much, and they may be stuck in a situation they cannot escape, much like a movie that's constantly being replayed in their mind. The repetition of "same old scene" emphasizes this feeling of being stuck in a loop.
In the final verse, the singer acknowledges that young love can be intense and overwhelming, a fact that they may have forgotten over time. They suggest trying to revive the "same old scene," perhaps hoping to reignite the passion and excitement that once existed in their relationship. However, it's still uncertain whether this effort will produce lasting change or if they will continue to struggle through the same issues.

When this song came out I was driving down the Kings Road in Chelsea, London with this playing, window down. Not kidding now, opposite me as I stopped in traffic was Bryan Ferry (in a red Alfa Romeo 6, the car I really wanted at the time), with his window down, shades on and cig hanging from the side of his mouth. He smiled and gave us a thumbs up. Too cool for real life.
