Why?
Roy Harper Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Why do you have to
Gain so much
To lose the world?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Why?" by Roy Harper express a deep reflection on the nature of human existence and the pursuit of material possessions. The opening lines "Why do you have to gain so much" directly address the paradoxical situation of humans accumulating wealth and power, only to eventually lose it all to death. The second line "to lose the world" further emphasizes this point, suggesting that in the end, all of our struggles and triumphs are ultimately meaningless.

The song can be interpreted as a call to reconsider our priorities as a society and as individuals. The chorus "Why must we jump into the void without asking why" can be understood as a warning against blindly following the mainstream and engaging in actions without questioning what is truly important.

Overall, "Why?" is a thought-provoking and poignant song that encourages listeners to reflect on the meaning of life and the role of material possessions. It can be seen as a meditation on the transitory nature of existence and an invitation to live in the present moment with clarity and purpose.

Loved it. They acknowledged Roy's past drug addiction and also showed his troubled conflicting personality. Lately he was just written as a flaky character.

Ashiqur Rahman I love him in Titans though.

I like how they mentioned Roy's drug problem and how Olly responded to it

I really love Harpers re-design and his new Rebirth suit. Never was a fan of the yellow hat, but a hat faced backwards, along with the glasses. It really finishes the rest of the costume. Which in return has some nice influences of the suit in Young Justice (the TV show, not the comics I think)

It's great to have him back (ish) in his older ways.

Klemma of the dollars

I personally love the hat

Let's just say I"m moe tolerant of it.

I've read "Red Hood and the Outlaws" and This must be the 5th Origen story I've seen for Roy Harper since "the New 52" started.

Daffy

Well this one is more like his pre-Flashpoint origin. I hope they stick to it cause it's actually unique and better than the generic New 52 one.
