Roy Harper & Jimmy Page Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I get up and I walk across the room
I get to the door - I've been there before
Wondering what I got up for
When all of a certain I remember
What I was going to say to you
Standing there watching my member
Hanging there squirting the loo
I'm really stoned
I'm really stoned
Permanently out my bone
I'm really stoned
I sit down on the phone I get the urge
To dump yesterday, flush it away
I hope the force is still with me
When sure enough the door flies off it's hinges
And there stands P.C. Bill Identikit
Saying "I've got trouble finding where I'm going
"Coz my backside is very badly lit
"Hello, hello, hello
"My bloody head no longer seems to fit
"Hello, hello, hello
"And you're under arrest...
...and...'ello?"
I'm really stoned
I'm really stoned
Permanently out my bone
I'm really stoned
So come on, let go
Let your feelings show
There's something inside you
The person beside you really needs to know
Come on, change your mind
You never know what you might find
Break out the rizlas
And roll up a place to unwind
Well you can bust me once
You can bust me twice
But you'd have to top me
To finally stop me from loading my dice
'Coz I'm really stoned
I'm really stoned
Permanently out my bone

I'm really stoned
(Joan bakewell) Tart

Overall Meaning

The song "Advertisement (Another Intentional Irrele vance)" by Roy Harper and Jimmy Page is a psychedelic rock track that delves into the writer's state of being under the influence of drugs. The song takes the listener through the writer's drug-induced confusion and forgetfulness, as he walks around the room trying to remember what he was intending to do. The lyrics suggest that drugs have led him to a permanent state of intoxication, as he is "permanently out of [his] bone." The use of the slang term "stoned" throughout the song highlights the writer's detachment from reality and the mundane activities of everyday life.

As the song progresses, the writer's state of confusion becomes more apparent. He mentions watching his genitals while urinating, and then later on, a police officer enters the picture and threatens to arrest him. Despite the danger, the writer remains unabashed in his drug use and encourages those around him to embrace their own feelings and let go of their inhibitions. The final section of the song emphasizes the writer's resilience in the face of societal disapproval, as he defiantly declares that nothing can "finally stop [him] from loading [his] dice."

Overall, "Advertisement (Another Intentional Irrele vance)" serves as a commentary on the influence of drugs on the human experience, specifically in terms of how they affect memory, detachment from reality, and self-expression.

I know man... wtf... I mean it's a little long the whole part about pissing on his shoe is not exactly radio friendly... but the chorus is amazing, the guitar solo, then the second idk what you'd call it... verse that comes in around 3:40 is just great. I connect with this song for some reason. maybe because I'm really stoned. Nah, jk I'm not. I wanna know what was going on in that studio tho lol... or do I? haha
