Shiner in the Dark
Royal Blood Lyrics

Said it's my delusions
Got golden bones, bulletproof soul
Don't mind the bruises
Got buried wounds and battle scars
The speed of light will set us off
Don't lie, can't shake the ghost
Shadows on the back seat, tank the glass
Trapped through memories, helping me fast
I got bruises
A south town battery, black and blue
Shiner in the dark, and my heart got the marks to prove it (bruises)
Don't mind the bruises
Don't stitch me up (don't stitch me up)
Don't dab me down (don't dab me down)
I'll lead them off (I'll lead them off)
I'll fight for blood (I'll fight for blood)
Come back around
Through thick and thin, with diamond skin
It's alright, I'll shine 'em in
Helping hands walked out the door
Save the night, face it all
Shadows on the back seat, tank the glass
Trapped through memories, helping me fast
I got bruises
A south town battery, black and blue
Shiner in the dark, and my heart got the marks to prove it (bruises)
Don't mind the bruises (yeah)
Don't mind the bruises
Shadows on the back seat, tank the glass
Trapped through memories, helping me fast
I got bruises
A south town battery, black and blue
Shiner in the dark, and my heart got the marks to prove it (bruises)
Don't mind the bruises
The lyrics of Royal Blood's "Shiner in the Dark" convey a message of resilience in the face of adversity and the scars one accumulates through life's challenges. The opening lines "They're I'm made of stone, said it's my delusions" suggest a sense of toughness and self-perception that may not always align with reality. The reference to having "golden bones, bulletproof soul" and not minding the bruises signifies a strong spirit that refuses to be broken by external wounds.
The mention of "buried wounds and battle scars" and the acknowledgment that "the ones at last will hurt the most" reflects a deep understanding of the emotional toll that past experiences can have on a person. The imagery of shadows on the back seat and being trapped through memories evokes a feeling of being haunted by the past, yet finding solace in the pain and bruises that serve as reminders of one's strength and endurance.
The repetition of "Don't mind the bruises" throughout the song emphasizes the idea of embracing one's imperfections and wear and tear as a testament to their endurance and resilience. The plea to not be stitched up or dabbed down speaks to a desire to confront and face challenges head-on rather than seeking to hide or erase the scars that make up part of one's identity.
The final lines of the song, with the repeated refrain of "Shadows on the back seat, tank the glass, trapped through memories, helping me fast," encapsulate the idea of navigating through the darkness of the past and emerging with an inner strength that shines brightly, even in the darkest moments. Ultimately, "Shiner in the Dark" is a powerful anthem of self-acceptance, resilience, and the ability to find beauty and strength in one's scars and bruises.

@Ryski74
This might be a top 5 all time Royal Blood song. The sound of Mike's Bass on this is unreal
@gabrieladdison
I agree!
@BeforeThisNovember
Certainly top 5 of their newer material, post HDWGSD
@phasmopyic37
People might disagree, but this album feels like the boys let go of any sort of restrictions. For example, for typhoons it sounded like they were chasing a sound, which worked for some didnt work for others. Back to the water may not be the hard hitting Self-titled, but i think this album is smth the boys are proud of and instead of a chasing an idea, they let the idea come to them, And as a result, its a chill and down to earth album. So say what u want but for me this album is banger
@thaicat8181
Just my thoughts. This may not be the best album in my opinion, but I think it's refreshing that they're experimenting with new things. People seem to think that Royal Blood has "finally run out of ideas", just because the new album doesn't match their taste.
@gabeaddisonmusic
@@thaicat8181yeah Royal Blood have expanded their style which is a really good thing
@eldoubleu2250
Tang Soo Do way of garage decluttering. I'm in.
@Joe-ze8xr
Think Mike said exactly that in an interview recently - rather than chasing a sound they just did what they felt natural, and them self producing this album allowed them to really expand their sound and do what they wanted.
@RootEight
Their's best album since Out of the Black album, for me a salid 8 💪😎🤘
@DamianOchramowicz
It feels incredibly nostalgic. Director of this video gets the vibe of 90s/early 2000s
