Worthless
Royal Blood Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Cause we're obsessed with money and have cowardly hearts
Untrusting of the ones that are alone in the dark
Avert our eyes from their broken gaze
Pockets heavy with the change we never wanted anyways

We lock our car doors and we harden our hearts
We fear the one's with nothing, the one's that need a fresh start
Money is your life and fear has your soul
But today I take a stand, I won't give fear control

You judge a man for what he has
Rather than for who he is
But I think we've got it wrong
We need to take a look inside

Who do you serve?
You can't bribe death
Who do we serve
If we fear death

Cause we're obsessed with money and we've lost our hearts
Untrusting of the ones that are alone in the dark
Look around this dying city, does it break your hardened heart
Every time you see someone whose life has come apart

I'm not so naïve to think this world's a pretty place
But your money doesn't mean you get to spit in their face

No I'm not so naïve to think this world's a pretty place
But our money doesn't mean we get to spit in their face!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Royal Blood's song "Worthless" delve into the themes of greed, fear, and lack of empathy for others. The song points out that we are so blinded by our obsession with money that we fail to see the plight of those who have nothing. We judge people based on their possessions rather than their character and this has made us fearful and suspicious of those who are alone in the dark. The lyrics suggest that we need to take a step back and look inside ourselves to see who we really serve. Do we serve money and let fear have our souls or do we serve something more meaningful and stand up for what is right?

The lyrics of "Worthless" highlight the contrast between those who have everything and those who have nothing. The song makes the point that our obsession with money has desensitized us to the pain and sufferings of others. The lyrics show us that instead of offering help or hope to those in need, we lock our car doors, harden our hearts, and look away. The song is a powerful call to action reminding us that it is time to shake off the numbness and take a stand against this indifference. We need to open our hearts and break the cycle of selfishness that has encircled our lives.

Overall, "Worthless" is a thought-provoking song that invites us to take a look at our lives and the way we treat others. It is a reminder that in our pursuit of money and material possessions, we have lost our way and need to rediscover the true meaning of humanity.

To be honest they were more in the right than most people think

Royal blood are a great band, and it's a shame that they were put where they were. The crowd wanted capaldi, and probably loved Horan too. They were not the right audience for the rock duo, and in my opinion, it was down to whoever set up the order of acts on which days who should be in trouble.
I totally understand the group's emotions and peril. The crowd should have behaved better for them too.

Tbf Royal Blood are a strange pick for a band who are playing before Lewis Capaldi, so realistically, it's the BBCs fault for thinking that Royal Blood are going to have a positive reaction from a very pop based audience.

Kerr and Thatcher are 2 of my favourite Musicans, and the BBC should know who should play alongside who I find it ridiculous that they didn't either put in a more Rock based Headliner or a More pop based act in place of Royal Blood. No hate towards Ben and Mike tho they didn't do anything wrong imo

@TheCharlielennon

The minute we expect 'professionalism' from rock bands we truly are fucked. The shit Oasis used to do back in the day...

@funghoulio26

It’s just mike being mike. It’s his humour he meant no offence, just pointing out the fact out of place the duo felt inbetween two pop starts so he addressed the unfamiliarity with his dry humour, completely his attempt to make a joke and have fun.

@dimensional9536

He's not wrong. Uncultured people who just wanna listen to crappy pop music and don't give people like this band enough chance.

@loganellis3564

I watched Dizzy Rascal and The Zutons support Muse.. you play what you can play

@benwarne189

They’re often like this in concerts and it’s a different crowd.
Saw them live a month or so after this and they did their thing did some cool solos and extensions thanked us and a bit of hype but you could tell they where playing it safe and keeping heads down

@adamproductions4529

Sometimes the band and crowd don't suit each-other.
