Bad Luck
Royal City Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Came to me without warning
Bad luck came with one
Horrible flashing eye
In the corners of the darkness
Bad luck has lingered
And now comes forth
And you will never know
The places that I go to without you
You will never ever ever know
I've met you in the alley
All covered in maggots
And I have seen you in the chambers
Of the silent sea
Bad luck, you are a terrible laughing god
Bad luck, bad luck, bad luck, bad luck
Underneath a blackened sky
And you will never know
The places that I go to without you
You will never ever ever know
You will never know
The places that I go to without you
You will never ever ever know, ah
The song "Bad Luck" by Royal City is a haunting and introspective track that explores the theme of misfortune and the feelings of loneliness and separation that come with it. The lyrics speak of bad luck coming without warning, with a horrible flashing eye, and lingering in the corners of the darkness. The singer of the song seems to have embraced this bad luck and traverses to places without their loved one. They have seen the bad luck in strange and eerie places such as in alley covered in maggots or in the chambers of the silent sea.
The chorus repeats the message that the listener will never know the places that the singer goes without them as they deal with their bad luck. There is a sense of finality about the message as if the singer has accepted their fate and are dealing with it alone. The repeated phrase "bad luck" takes on a menacing tone and seems to symbolize the overwhelming power that fate can have in a person's life. Overall, the song is a meditation on the forces that shape our lives and the loneliness one can feel when dealing with them.
