As We Fall Into Deep Waters
Royal Coda Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Not a trace, not a face
Little voice and a ton of space
Can of mace
I ain't gonna run with the liar
I don't represent a murderer
Yeah your number in a data base, data base
Unemployment checks we got a raise, got a raise
Now we're the blank face consumer
Now we're the brainwashed loser

Somehow we want it and everyone knows
But I don't, I don't
Still want to know
Everyone grows
But you don't, you don't
And time will tell

I just stared at the river wondering
How long would it take to go?
Then I heard
A little voice
Saying "no"

Open and shut the case, shut the case
The information age we can't agree, can't agree
Upon the little things and argue
Fighting each other getting nothing done
But we're the "experts" and all the kids
All the cool kids
They're throwing all their little fits, little fits
I ain't gonna run with the liar
I don't represent a murderer

Somehow we want it and everyone knows
But I don't, I don't
Still want to know
Everyone grows
But you don't, you don't
And time will tell

You never even thought about it
Never crossed your mind
It's a big mistake
And it's too late, it's too late
I just don't want to think about it
Every single day
And all the time
Where is mine? Where is mine?

I just stared at the river wondering
How long would it take to go?
Then I heard

A little voice
Saying "no"

Overall Meaning

In Royal Coda's song As We Fall Into Deep Waters, the lyrics focus on the struggles of modern society, where advanced technology and information overload have led to a lack of personal connection and widespread confusion. The opening lines, "not a trace, not a face, little voice and a ton of space", suggest a sense of disconnection and loneliness - a feeling that is further emphasized through the metaphorical references to murder and data bases. The singer refuses to be a part of this self-destructive society and chooses to stand up against the lies and deceit.

As the song progresses, the lyrics point out the hypocrisy and lack of progress in society, where people are more interested in arguing than coming to a consensus on important issues. The line "everyone grows but you don't" highlights the fact that while society may be advancing, individuals are still struggling to find their place within it. The song ends on a somber note, with the singer questioning whether they even want to be a part of this society, and the "little voice" suggesting that they shouldn't give up.

Overall, "As We Fall Into Deep Waters" is a poignant reflection on the issues facing modern society, and a call to stand up against the negative aspects of progress.

For those that are fans of Kurt's era of Dance Gavin Dance; Royal Coda is your go-to band! Love this!

@AutomaticDuck300

I am! I love how this band are clearly having a great time though. It’s so good to see.

Amazing sound, but I will say this. Royal Coda is not simply DGD with Kurt vocals. Although, the genres and styles are clearly adjacent, especially with Will Swan being in the band (with his distinct compositional style in tandem with geniuses like Sergio Medina), Royal Coda offers something very different from DGD. Not something that can really be put into words, but i guess it's that RC doesn't really go into the hardcore hardcore side of post-hardcore. Rather, they seem to lean more towards a pop punk on crack sound, and it's addictive. I truly love what all these Swancore bands have to offer

@Kruesi26

Kurt has been CRUSHING his vocals lately.
