They have stated that they are on a mission to bring back soul into electronic music, and are quoted as saying: “We aren’t just electronic bedroom producers, and we’re not just guitarists and pianists who don’t know much about making a beat”. They grew up on everything from grime to jazz and blues, from hip-hop to house, and state: “You can’t really box us into a category, we’re more about musicality, songwriting and broader influences. We are Sly and the Family Stone, Todd Edwards and Dr. Dre in a cheeseburger!”
The original Rudimental trio go back a long way. Piers and Locksmith grew up on the same road in Hackney, with Kesi living just around the corner in Stoke Newington, where he went to the same school as Labrinth and Professor Green. Amir joined the collective in mid-2011 after working with them on some remixes.

Start my glory days
Infiltrate my heart
And take the pain away
Took me time
To see through your eyes
Oh I'm not scared
My words aren't lies
Powerless for your love
Powerless for your love
I need to be strong
But you have made me weak
I won't do you wrong
'Cause these feelings run deep
Where do we belong?
I know we'd search to find
'Cause I'm powerless for your love
I think I'm losing my mind
And after it all
Would you still stand up and fight?
When you're hidden in darkness
Would you run towards the light?
Even though I'm alone
I can feel you here with me
I try to block you out
But you're all I see
Powerless for your love
Powerless for your love
I need to be strong
But you have made me weak
I won't do you wrong
'Cause these feelings run deep
Where do we belong?
I know we'd search to find
'Cause I'm powerless for your love
I think I'm losing my mind
I think I'm losing my mind
Tell me this time
You won't let me go
With you my by side
I don't feel alone
I've let go of my pride
Now I can call you my own
I need to be strong
But you have made me weak
I won't do you wrong
'Cause these feelings run deep
Where do we belong?
I know we'd search to find
I'm powerless for your love
I think I'm losing my mind
The song "Powerless" by British drum and bass band, Rudimental, explores the feelings of vulnerability that one can experience when in love. The lines "Bury my ghost, start my glory days" may suggest a need to move on from past hurts and find hope in a relationship with someone new. The singer acknowledges that the pain they have experienced has left them weakened, but still has faith in the power of love. The repeated refrain "Powerless for your love" emphasizes the notion that love can be so strong that it can render one powerless. The lines "Where do we belong? I know we'd search to find" indicate an uncertainty about the future of the relationship.
The chorus is repeated throughout the song, adding to the vulnerability expressed by the singer. The lyrics become more introspective towards the end, with the line "I think I'm losing my mind" suggesting that the singer is struggling with the intensity of their emotions.
Overall, "Powerless" is a poignant reflection on the all-consuming nature of love, and the ways in which it can leave one feeling exposed and powerless.
