Exodus
Ruelle Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Creatures of habit
Oh, we′re so systematic
Oh, no (oh, no)
Hypnotized by the magic
But we're too scared to have it
Can we break out of the mold?
This is getting old
Lonely, we′re so lonely
Our followers keep growing
But do we know each other
Outside of all this clutter?
Comparison is killing us
We hate it, but we can't get enough
Can we find our own lane
Before it drives us insane?

Slow it down
Can we just slow it down?
Can we come back to us?
Remember how it was?
Let it all turn to dust
We need an exodus

Soak in the wonder
Outside of filters and colors
Let go (oh, no)
Oh, this pressure we're under
It′s louder than thunder
Can we separate the noise
From our inner voice and

Slow it down
Can we just slow it down?
Can we come back to us?
Remember how it was?
Let it all turn to dust
We need an exodus
We need an exodus

Don′t wanna forget how to feel
Make believing this is real
Just wanna get lost in the moment
Don't wanna forget how to feel
Make believing this is real
Just wanna get lost in the moment
So I can

Slow it down
Can we just slow it down?
Can we come back to us?
Remember how it was?
Let it all turn to dust

We need an exodus
We need an exodus

Overall Meaning

In Ruelle's song Exodus, the artist expresses the feeling of being overwhelmed by the systematic lifestyle we are living in. The first verse describes how we have become creatures of habit and how we are hypnotized by the magic of social media, but are too scared to experience it in reality. We are stuck in this mold which is tiring and it's time to break out of it. The second verse talks about the loneliness we feel despite having so many followers on social media. We do not know each other outside of all the clutter and comparison is killing us. We need to find our own lane before it drives us insane. The chorus talks about slowing down and coming back to ourselves, remembering how it was before all the noise and clutter. We need to have an Exodus - let it all turn to dust and start anew.

This song highlights the toxic nature of social media and how it has taken over our lives. We are constantly comparing ourselves to others and trying to fit into molds that are not realistic. We have become lonely and isolated despite being connected to so many people. The song calls for a change in perspective and approach towards social media and urges us to take a step back and find our own identity.
