Here I Am
Russ Taff Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Here I stand
Just a child of my time
I've opened up my heart
Let me come home
Home to where my life will be strong
Am I standing alone
Just a verse without a rhyme
Or could it be at last
A final journey home
The place that I have searched for so long
I can take it or leave it
But the time has come for me to receive it
Listen to me call
(I'm calling, I'm calling)
I can let it go or keep it
But the time is right for me to surrender
Watch the shadow fall

Chorus:
Here I am (Because you love me)
Willing to be broken
Here I am (Because you love me)
Coming closer to you
Giving you my will

Here I stand
Willing to become as new
Send me out prepared
Covered in your love
Ready to be a light to the world
I'm not standing alone
You are with me all the time
And we now begin
Our final journey home
I'll be yours and you will be mine
I can't take it or leave it
But the time has come for me to receive it
Listen to me call (I'm calling, I'm calling)
I can let it go or keep it
But the time is right for me to surrender
Watch the shadow fall

Repeat Chorus

The song "Here I Am" by Russ Taff is a declaration of surrender to God in seeking true happiness and fulfillment in life. The opening lines of the song suggest that the singer or the singer is a child of his time, suggesting that he is seeking his place or identity in this world. The second line reveals that he has opened up his heart, indicating his willingness to receive love and guidance, and ultimately his salvation. He then pleads to come home, where he can find the strength to live his life fully, while searching for his purpose in life.

The singer acknowledges that he might be standing alone, with a verse without a rhyme, indicating that he might be lost and confused about the direction in which he is heading. However, he also acknowledges that it could be the time for his final journey home, where he finds the place he has been searching for so long. He speaks of the readiness to take things or leave them but acknowledges that the time has come for him to surrender and receive God's love and direction wholeheartedly. He closes the song with a declaration of submission and openness to be molded into a better person and surrendering his will.

Overall, "Here I Am" is a song that speaks of a personal journey of redemption and surrender to the divine will without any reservations. The lyrics are rich in symbolism and metaphors that capture the singer's longing for spiritual guidance and restoration. amazing how you can remember the feel of a song you haven't heard in 30 years

Oh my, soooo agree with you🙏

I didn't know much of Taff's solo stuff (lots of his Imperials stuff, but not his own solo songs) until I saw him with Farrell & Farrell. He blew them away. And he blew me away. This song drove me to my knees.

...complete with the style of music that defined the 80s.

30 years after, I listen to these songs as the sound track of my life, not just tunes I sang along to so long ago, oblivious to the depth they'd have now.

Mike Mayfield

He and with the Christian group, the imperials back in the 80s. I believe he had another band called sounds of joy in the 70s. I just watched a documentary about his life. I have met russ and he is one of the nicest people I have ever met.
