This is a historic record. Producer Shelby Singleton said this is the first session he did in Nashville for Mercury Records (in April, 1960). He started out very well, don't you think?

Superb! Can this be found in MP3 somewhere?

My favorite version of this song

Richard Smith

Not as good as Joe D Gibso on Tetra in 1959. The Fendermen version was a rip off of Joe D. Gibson and was OK. I do like the way Dolly Parton does it. Of course the original by the writer Jimmie Rodgers in 1955 is great. I also like his original version of The Battle Of New Orleans with its double Entrande is also great. I don't know when he recorded it first but I have an LP from Monument Records with re-recordings of a lot of his writings.

Todd Everett

Gibson's version is great, and may have been the prototype for the Fendermen record. But the Fendermen had that electric guitar! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUDkHAaFyzM

Hank Garland

Hank Garland on lead Guitar !!!!!!

Richard Smith

I goofed. The original Battle Of New Orleans was by Jimmy Driftwood not Jimmie Rodgers,. The album I have on Monument is by Jimmy Driftwood. Sorry for any confusion. My Mind is going.
