Go by so fast
If only time
Was built to last
If it could learn
To take it slow
Then maybe time
That if Monday, Tuesday
Should go away
It'll be Wednesday, Thursday
Then Saturday
And when Sunday comes
It's just too late
It's gotta be this time
How come the days
Do what they do
Maybe if time
Time only knew
Could be that time
Don't really know
That it should try
To take it slow
Then maybe Monday, Tuesday
Won't go away
Then maybe Thursday, Friday
Could be like Saturday
And when Sunday comes
It's never too late
It'll be this time
It's gotta be this time
How come the days
Do what they do
Maybe if time
Time only knew
That if Monday, Tuesday
Should go away
It'll be Wednesday, Thursday
Then Saturday
And when Sunday comes
It's just too late
It's gotta be this time
It's gotta be this time
It's never too late
It'll be this time
Ruthie Foster's song "This Time" talks about the passing of time and how it often seems to go by too quickly. The lyrics begin by questioning why the days go by so fast and expressing a wish for time to last longer. The singer then suggests that perhaps time should try to slow down and take things more slowly. She imagines a world in which Monday and Tuesday don't just come and go, but rather blend into the rest of the week in a more gradual manner that allows us to savor each moment. She concludes by asserting that it's "gotta be this time" - that we need to make the most of the time we have and appreciate each day fully.
The song can be seen as a reflection on the fleeting nature of time and a plea to savor each moment of life. It reminds us that time is not something we can control or hold onto, but rather something we must learn to appreciate in the short window we have. The song also suggests that time is not an abstract concept, but rather something that can be changed if we learn to approach it differently.
