Maybe This Time
Ruthie Henshall Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Maybe this time, I'll be lucky
Maybe this time, he'll stay
Maybe this time
For the first time
Love won't hurry away

He will hold me fast
I'll be home at last
Not a loser anymore
Like the last time
And the time before

Everybody loves a winner
So nobody loved me;
'Lady Peaceful,' 'Lady Happy,'
That's what I long to be
All the odds are in my favor
Something's bound to begin
It's got to happen, happen sometime
Maybe this time I'll win----

Maybe this time, I'll be lucky
Maybe this time, he'll stay
Maybe this time
For the first time
Love won't hurry away

He will hold me fast
I'll be home at last
Not a loser anymore
Like the last time
And the time before

Everybody loves a winner
So nobody loved me;
'Lady Peaceful,' 'Lady Happy,'
That's what I long to be
All the odds are in my favor
Something's bound to begin--

It's got to happen, happen sometime
Maybe this time,
maybe this time,
I'll

win----
so no body loved me!!!!

Overall Meaning

Ruthie Henshall's "Maybe This Time" is a song about hope, second chances, and the possibility of finding love after many failed attempts. The first stanza sets the tone, with the singer acknowledging that she has not had much luck in love in the past. However, she is hopeful that this time, things will be different. She longs for a love that will not "hurry away" and will finally bring her the happiness that she deserves. The chorus is a repetition of this hope, with the singer wishing for luck and for her love to stay.

The third stanza provides some insight into the singer's past experiences with love. She reveals that she has been called "Lady Peaceful" and "Lady Happy" but has never felt this way inside. The contrast between her public facade and her private emotions is revealing of her character- she has been trying to put on a happy front while feeling lonely on the inside. The stanza also indicates that she has been a loser in her previous attempts at love- a sentiment that she repeats in the next stanza.

The last stanza is a culmination of the singer's hope and desire for love. She believes that the odds are in her favor this time, and that something is bound to begin. She sings that it has to happen sometime, and perhaps this is the time that she will finally win in love.

Overall, "Maybe This Time" is a song that is full of emotion, longing, and hope. It speaks to anyone who has felt unlucky in love and is hoping to finally find their soulmate. With its catchy melody and heartfelt lyrics, it is a song that has resonated with many people over the years.

She has that mind-blowing combination of perfect vocal technique and genuine human expression. She is one of the very few people I've ever heard who can act with their voice alone. Every night is a performance, but it doesn't need to be over-the-top. it's so understated. Amazing.

You can close your eyes and just listen, and you’d still feel exactly what she’s feeling in those moments. It’s remarkable.

”Acts with her voice ✅” exactly. As all musical theater performers should strive to do in their shows. ✌️

Ruthie Henshall has honestly ruined all other performances of this song for me. I will never be able to hear it without hearing Ruthie's version in my head. SO incredible.

How can anyone not like this. Hands down best rendition ever.

This is a master class on how to "act out" a song.  Even her reaction to the applause is exquisite.

What a voice. You really don't see too many "Broadway" voices anymore. They're all being replaced by more pop-oriented voices, which is a shame. But she has all the vocal brassiness seen in some of our late, great belters (Merman, Lisa Kirk, Vivian Blaine). She also manages to act the song very well. She almost seemed like she wanted to cry out in frustration near the end.

Ruthie has got to be the best at singing this song im in love with it :) Altough Kristin Chenoweth singing it on Glee was amazing
