Let's leave the city lights behind,
Turn the radio on, there's a Sheryl Crow song,
And she's soaking up the sun
Shine on, shine on, and on
[Chorus:]
It's time to go for a ride,
Let's go for a ride, let's go for a ride
I'm looking at you, and I'm loving the view,
It's like a California dream come true,
Just yesterday we were lost in L.A.
Now we're soaking up the sun, yeah yeah
Shine on, shine on, and on
[Chorus]
Shine on, Shine on, and on
[Chorus 2x]
The lyrics of Ryan Malcolm's "Ride" describe a hot summer night where the singer and their companion decide to leave the city lights behind and go on a ride, with the Sheryl Crow song "Soak Up the Sun" playing on the radio. The opening lines emphasize the freedom and carefree nature of the moment, as the singer and their partner venture into the unknown. The chorus emphasizes the idea of escape, as the singer looks to find a way to carry them away from the everyday.
The second verse focuses on the companion and their beauty, comparing them to a California dream come true. The verse's climax is the switch from the past to the present as the singer is no longer lost in LA, but instead basking in the sun with their partner. The chorus repeats itself once again, emphasizing the importance of the ride as a means of escape.
Overall, the song is a celebration of freedom, love, and escape. The singer wishes to escape the mundane and everyday, finding freedom and joy in the journey taken with their companion. The lyrics walk the line between nostalgia and hopeful anticipation, painting a picture of the perfect summer's night.
