Double Life
Ryan McMahon Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Double life but I'm 0-2
All I've gots is a talkin' stew
I am me so how do you do today?

I woke up late with the stomach flu
Wrote the 'down' down and it's all untrue
There's nothing left I can put you through this way
'Cause the summer's still on its way
With the promise of a better day
But it all falls apart with a cheating false start
And the better days gone by again

Double-wide but I'm thin like you
A few more ryes and we'll get there soon
Nobody hurts if nobody moves away

A little less but we'll make do
Keeping the faith that'll push us through
There's no avenue that I won't pursue or play

You know my better days
They've gone by again

Overall Meaning

Ryan McMahon's song "Double Life" refers to a sense of disillusionment with life and the inability to escape past mistakes. The title of the song seems to refer to the idea of living a double life, where one presents a certain persona to the outside world while struggling with inner turmoil and issues. The line "Double life but I'm 0-2" suggests that the singer of the song has already failed twice at this double life, and he is experiencing a sense of frustration and desperation as a result.

The song's first verse describes the singer's physical state, as he wakes up with the stomach flu and feels unwell. He then talks about writing "the 'down' down", which seems to refer to writing down negative thoughts and feelings. He admits that these thoughts are not entirely true, but he still feels helpless and unable to escape them. The line "There's nothing left I can put you through this way" could suggest that the singer has been burdening someone else with his issues and is now unable to continue doing so.

The chorus talks about the promise of better days to come, but this promise ultimately fades away as circumstances do not change. The second verse refers to the singer's physical appearance, describing himself as "double-wide but thin like you". He talks about drinking alcohol to cope with his problems, but ultimately acknowledges that nobody can move away from their issues. The verse ends on a more optimistic note, with the singer vowing to pursue every avenue available to him in order to make things better.

I agree. All creation is a fall into duality.

Nuit and Hadit. The Yin and the Yang. Darkness and Light. Etc.

It is quite amazing to me that humans decided to use these exact symbols to create a digital reality.

There is a sense that the ancients predicted this future to at least some degree. Deities holding the 1 and 0 in their hands shown all over the world. Certainly makes one think.

I really enjoyed your appearances on Unslaved. Cheers.

Brilliant conversation. Thank you guys for getting together and providing this food for thought!

you said man is trying to control nature, so true without understanding the spiritual depth. I think you explained this language thing very well, helped me on my journey. Ryan, I sense you are such a nice, good person. Once you answered a post of mine, took time to comment, I appreciated that! Stopping my internal dialogue is the challenge for me at this moment. I find shutting it down has been next to impossible for me, and that constant barrage of thoughts can be so detrimental to growth. But I keep trying.

Thank you for commenting and listening. As for the internal dialogue, Castaneda says it's all about intent! Keep intending it, making it important and it will stop. Check out the encounters with the nagual series on my channel if you haven't already. Wopila.

@Mary, here's a Mary too, suggesting to not make an effort to stop the internal dialogue. Instead, use the location of your inner observer, where the stillness and neutrality are located, and observe yourself without investing in commenting on your inner conversation. The mind is so very clever to grasp your attention, especially when you try to stop it. It's almost like you calm down a child in a tantrum by being present, in that calmness, witnessing and not DOING something about it. In my own personal experiences with awareness, I find it often helps to focus my attention in my hands when I'm working and BE present with that. Or focus my attention in my ears, hearing all the sounds around me with attention.

@Devon Seamoor "without investing.." very well stated. I see the internal dialogue as the Pick a Duck carnival game - bear with me, lol - the one where the ducks flow in moving water in circles and a child picks a duck from the pond to win a prize. Standing back in my observer and knowing thoughts are just the ducks in the pond allows me to let them flow without 'me' paying any heed. Stepping back into the observer at that point becomes simple.

WORDS To Contemplate & Assimilate

Excellent topics! Thank you so much guys!! I'm in the process of reading Lyons book. I'm only in chapter 18, but the part about the word "ANGER" and "DANGER" is in chapter 8:
"ANGER is the word we use for our internalized and therefore delayed response to DANGER. Other animals deal immediately with danger. They have no anger separate from danger since such anger would only waste their energy." "Because we have a word for it, we can hold onto anger. We can store any named emotion and pass it on in print. Our loves, hates, joys, and fears were packaged up and handed down so we could see the riddle of our history." "As Phase One animals, we had only present time emotions; anger and danger came together. But with the use of fire, time was divided. We built on the past to reach the future. When a stick acquired a name, its form (sticking out from trees) and its use (sticking into things) were made a part of it. And a complex sense of 'tense' took possession of the sounds we made. Visions, past and future, we're reflective of each other as we encoded our techno mistakes in history. EVIL was a DEVIL. And DEVIL spelled backwards was LIVED." "The Crystal reflects universal knowledge where 'good' and 'evil' are terms of survival. And since what is good for one species may spell danger for the next, humans have a mystery in their words, a secret of 'the human condition' where fire is at the center of all our unconscious fears." He goes on to talk about Phase Three to dispel ANGERS by ANGELS "living in the spirit."

Fascinating interview, topics, beings.

Thank you Ryan for sharing this!!
Much Love!!

That's very well explained, Words and the rest of your name. Sorry, no offense. I've often played with the letters of my name and turned it around, Nairam. Also I'm now thinking about my name as Maryan. Just tasting those changes for myself, no real change like as changing my name in my passport ;)
