S.E.V.A. was conceived with multiple purposes in mind: as a medium to spread awareness of timeless spiritual truth, as a benefit record to raise money for charitable causes such as the tsunami relief efforts happening all around the world, and as an album of great music to inspire and bring joy to the listener. Half of the artist royalties generated from sales will be dedicated to charitable causes around the world. It is our hope that this act of charity, especially in the hip-hop and world beat communities will start a trend for artists everywhere to reach out, spread positive messages, and assist our world community in any way that they can.
Much of the inspiration behind S.E.V.A. was generated through the compassionate works of Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi "Ammachi," hailed the world over as a living saint and great humanitarian leader. Through her many charitable projects, such as a free state-of-the-art super-specialty hospital in Cochin, India, the construction of 20,000+ free homes for the homeless, orphanages, schools, higher educational institutions, and a penchant plan for widowed and homeless women, she was awarded the Gandhi/King award for non-violence in 2002 at the United Nations, and is recognized throughout the world for her vast network of charitable activities. Amma herself, as she is commonly known, is truly a living embodiment of the meaning of seva. Her days are spent hugging and blessing thousands of people throughout the world to ameliorate and mitigate their suffering, without taking any time for her own personal needs. It is from these great acts that the idea of S.E.V.A was born, as a small way to show our recognition and appreciation for her work, and for the work of all people engaged in selfless service throughout the world.
We are both students of Eastern philosophy and seekers of the highest esoteric wisdom and realization. We have teamed up to bring across our unique background of sample-based hip-hop production, in unison with the timeless messages of S.E.V.A..
