Harder
S.I.T.H Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Flee inside a cave
Just look up and behold my pride
This race is gone
Just to make it clearer
I will show you blood
Heart and soul
Streaming stronger
Safer
It would be to scamper off
And hide
But these windows they
Tell me to stay in place
Fiercely
I toss myself towards death
To hide
But this angel she
Tells me to stay alive
How can you be so selfish
Don't you think it hurts to lose you?
Question
When did you become so bloody evil
Did you ever consider me at all
Never
This here blood is red
And my hearts keeps beating harder
And harder
And weaker and bleaker
Tell me
Won't you give me a bucket of ice
Please
The most vicious fever will come
And take my life
The lyrics of S.I.T.H's song 'Harder' begin with the singer acknowledging the fear that they may retreat or hide inside a cave. However, they declare their strong pride and that this race is gone. They then state that to make it clearer, they will show blood, heart and soul fused into a river that streams stronger. Although it may be safer to scamper off and hide, the singer is commanded to stay in place by the windows. They then fiercely toss themselves towards death to hide, but an angel tells them to stay alive.
As the song progresses, the singer questions the selfishness of someone as it hurts to lose them. They question when this person became so bloody evil and if they ever considered the singer at all. In the end, the singer implores the listener to give them a bucket of ice as the fever will come and take their life.

The most powerful thing to come out of this show for me and one that actually adds a great deal to the characters we love (Anakin/ Vader and then Obi Wan), if you allow it to become your canon, is that dialogue between the two.
Some of the most meaningful moments in fiction are actually the ones which leave room for interpretation!
When Anakin/Vader tells Obi that he didn't kill Anakin, but he himself did it (after Obi apologized to him), it almost seems like there is the light side shining through, as if Anakin wants to lift Obi Wan of that burden, of that feeling of guilt. He himself is now taking responsibility for the way things went. I mean, was he really ready to kill Obi Wan? He wanted, but then again he didn't want to. After all he decided to bury him, instead of actually killing him in a way where he can be certain. He then walked away.
On the other hand, it could be that telling Obi Wan that he (Vader) killed Anakin, is the dark side, his massive ego really embracing what he has become and owning that path, taking away from Obi Wan that he could possibly have had a part in shaping his future, telling him that he wasn't significant enough so he could have possibly done that, thereby trying to hurt him even more.
I personally lean towards the former, also because of Hayden's voice when he said the part about Obi not having any part in it. His voice is soft and sad here. Then again, when he said "I did!" it's realy vadery and kind of evil. For the first part of the sentence his face is covered in blue light and only with the evil "I did" does it turn red. I don't know, maybe its both. The character stays ambivalent after all and holds sort of two peole. So who knows.
Either way, seeing Anakin like this and hearing what he had to say, lifted the burden of guilt from Obi Wan and he could finally be free again.
Very very powerful scene for me!
