Vo. IZAM,… Read Full Bio ↴SHAZNA is a well-established band consisting of three members.
Vo. IZAM, Gu. AOI, Ba. NIY.
SHAZNA was formed by IZAM in 1992 when he recruited the original bassist to start a Culture Club tribute band. That bassist was later replaced by his older brother, NIY. In 1993, AOI and former member Katsura joined the band and they released their first demo ENMITY.
In 1996, after releasing two well-received mini-albums (MELTY CASE and Raspberry Time) Katsura left SHAZNA to join the visual kei band, BAISER. Thus SHAZNA became the trio that we know today.
In June of 1997 they released their first video collection, Lavender Color, which reached No. 1 on the Oricon charts. Later that same year SHAZNA signed to major label BMG FUNHOUSE and released their first major mini-album, Promise Eve.
1998 was truly the "Year of SHAZNA". They released their immensely popular album Gold Sun and Silver Moon and held a four performance tour titled "MOONLIGHT DREAM" A Midsummer Night's Dream, the most notable live being held at the famous Nippon Budokan. Their faces and music graced everything from magazine covers to commercials to television dramas.
In 1999, with a slew of releases (now under TOSHIBA EMI) that had a decidedly different look and sound than SHAZNA fans were used to and expected from their idols, their popularity took a nosedive. Their fanbase and popularity further decreased with the scandal of IZAM's brief marriage to then 19-year-old model, Hinano Yoshikawa.
SHAZNA officially disbanded in 2000 with each member pursuing solo careers.
~Solo SHAZNA
IZAM has had perhaps the most active and successful solo career, appearing in a number of movies and television shows as well as in a musical, modeling, and releasing two albums, two singles, and a book - "Mirror Boy". In November of 2006 IZAM was married for the second time to actress Miho Yoshioka and on April 17, 2007 he became the father of a healthy baby boy.
AOI has continued with his musical career, playing solo acoustic lives as well as contributing guitar to IZAM's solo releases. He also formed his own band, RAG DOLL. On January 3, 2008 AOI married actress Akira Morimoto after a year-and-a-half relationship. His first child, a daughter, was born on June 6, 2008.
NIY has also contributed his bass skills to IZAM's solo releases aside from his activities with his own band, FANBLE.
~SHAZNA Reborn!
In 2006 SHAZNA announced that they were reuniting and resuming activities. Their first live back together at Tokyo Shibuya duo MUSIC EXCHANGE on September 5, 2007 was a sold out, standing room only success. They released their first new single in seven years in April, 2007 entitled Kokoro 1/2. It was followed by the release of the album 10th Melty Life on August 8, 2007, the 10th anniversary of the release of Melty Love.
Since then they have played a few scattered lives while fans anxiously await their next release.
~Side Project
In November of 2007 IZAM and AOI formed a side band, donning red sweat suits and calling themselves Alcali-5. On Valentine's Day 2008 they released a mini-album, ALCALIST, and continue to perform periodic lives.

"Brightness steal for Jesus"
The lyrics to SHAZNA's song "Topaz" describe the pain and longing that comes with a love that was too intense and ultimately damaging. The singer describes how they pursued someone who they believed was their soulmate, but over time they discovered that the love they had for this person was one-sided and unhealthy. They lied to themselves, telling themselves that the other person loved them back just as much, but in the end, they were left with a heart that had been broken by their own illusions.
The lyrics also speak to the confusion that comes with looking back on past relationships. The singer remembers the day they met their love, and the place where they first saw each other, but despite the passage of time, they remain frozen in that moment, unable to move on. The chorus ("Long for your love") expresses the singer's desire to find someone who will reciprocate their feelings, but it's clear that they're still haunted by memories of their past love.
Overall, "Topaz" is a somber reflection on the pain of unrequited love, and the lingering emotions that come with looking back on what could have been.
