Cody Price No, it's not completely wrong. In fact the ending emphasize this again, Childress was right in front of them, wearing a human mask and they didn’t suspect him. It was only once Woody had gazed into his own shadow that he was able to uncover Childress as a monster wearing a human mask.
And your explanation on why it is, does nothing to refute or discredit anything I even said anyway.
We’re talking about two completely different aspects of the scene lmfao.
You’re talking about Rusts thoughts, i’m talking about the Cooks.
My comment is not on Rust, it’s on the cook and how he felt threatened. And he did indeed feel threatened, as had he not felt threatened, then he wouldn't have felt compelled to threaten Rust, while making it very clear he’s sees “through” Rust. It's common sense. He saw danger (Rusts darkness) and told it to stay away from him or else. He threatened what he thought was threatening. Why? Because it’s dangerous and he doesn’t want it near him. You don't threaten things you aren't threatened by. "lol"

It’s just as Nietzsche explains (whose philosophy greatly inspired True detective), about looking into the abyss and the abyss looking back into you. This exchange was a two way street. (You saw one side of the street and assumed it was the entire road imo). The Cook was able to look into Rusts abyss and see he was a monster, a fellow monster in fact, as the cook himself is too which is probably why he’s able to spot Rusts so easily as you pointed out. However, this is something the cook should have no problem with, as all his acquaintances are monsters, yet he does have a problem with this particular one, why? Because this monster he is now facing is an outsider, and if he can see this outsiders monster, this means the outsider can probably see his as well. And this particular monster (the cook), as shown over and over in the show, does not like to be seen, he does not like attention from outsiders, this is why they live off the grid.
Yet now, this monster has been exposed, to an outsider. The cook is now on this outsiders radar as being a monster. And not only is this man outsider, but also a monster, one he can feel or as he puts it “can see” is corrosive to his own. This is the threat he felt and raged against.

He was angry, because he knows he is now on the radar of a monster that is corrosive to his own, or as i put it earlier, a monster that can hunt his own monster. He was angry because something that is a threat to him, now knows of his existence. Which is why he even further tells Rust to never come back there or he’ll kill him. He wants Rust to go away, so that the cook is no longer on the dangerous animals radar and threatens that Rust is now too on the cooks radar.

"I can see your soul at the edges of your eyes. It's corrosive, like acid. You got a demon, little man."
The music
It is pure art. The music goes perfectly together with the cuts.

"Casey leaves the underground and stops inside the Golden Crown
For something wet to wipe away the chill that's on his bones
Seein' his reflection in the lives of all the lonely men
Who reach for anything they can to keep from goin' home
Standing in the corner, Casey drinks his pint of bitter
Never glancin' in the mirror at the people passin' by"

Mojo Rising I've seen the trailer. It looks nothing like season one

A) that camera work in Louisiana
B) no one looks as oxymoron like Rust and Marty
C) there won't be mention of 'carcosa' or 'yellow king' or even 'antler' or 'twig'
D) no time line going eight years back and 16 years back and then current frame of reference
E) no philosophical genius like Rust
F) no layered story telling
G) no getting stoned and going to mogadishuG) no Steadicam Chasing Shot (season one had the best one on TV history)

No matter what happens, the produce/writer/director can't top season one. Season one remains the perfectly aged Bordeaux called Chteau Lafite. How do you top that ??

I love how Cohle got criticized for saying “odd shit”, but then odd shit is directed at Cohle for once and it’s the most genuine, personal attack at him that he’s experienced in a while, and coming from the villlain of the story nonetheless

Shanaynay

Well said buddy 👏🏻

Sugaa show

That wasn’t the villain of the story. The yellow king was.

Yeah it’s like when Reggie said “time is a flat circle” and rust shot back with “what is that nietzsche? Shut the fuck up.” Taking a page from Marty’s playbook

The part where Dewall suddenly starts looking around while Rust is explaining his offer. Guy just instinctively knew something was wrong. Those little details are all over this season. Masterful.

"Time is a flat circle." I think the main power in True Detective is meta-awareness, and characters like Rust and Dewall are aware on some level they're in a television show. Faced with infinitely recurring fates they can be aware of but are powerless to ultimately stop

Rich Battaglia

Keen attention to detail.

@Bradelaide Dont think it mattered to Rust. He had Marty waiting to tail DeWall so one way or another, he was finding out where him and Ledoux were hiding.
