Fire Alarm
Sahara Hotnights Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Your eyes shine as you say
I saw God and she looks like you
You're too proud and please
I try not to breathe
A sound might break us in two
No, no, no way
No, no, no way
We're not making any handshake deals
This is the sunniest day
You're so blown away
Saying: who can compete with you?
I don't know what to say
Hey, I'm not gonna stay
I don't want to conquer your land
He's got a fire alarm
And it calls when I do what I shouldn't do
Said I'm gonna do you no harm
Still I do it all over again I'm sorry
This is where I draw the line
I'm here to kill all the fun
But I know you'll get around
So good at turning you down
Out of place put of time
Yeah I know you'll get around
The lyrics in Sahara Hotnight's song "Fire Alarm" can be interpreted as a moment of hesitation and temptation between two people. The singer describes a "red letter day," which denotes an important and significant day. Their partner's eyes shine as they proclaim that they saw God and she looks like the singer, implying that the partner sees the singer as a divine being. The singer is taken aback and tries not to break the moment by breathing.
However, the singer is clear that they are not making any promises or handshake deals. This suggests that the singer is hesitant to fully immerse themselves in the relationship, indicating that they might not be looking for something serious. The singer acknowledges that their partner is blown away and believes no one can compete with them. But, the singer doesn't want to stay and conquer their land. The internal conflict of wanting to be a part of the moment but not wanting the relationship to progress is apparent in the lyrics.
The singer mentions an individual who has a fire alarm, which may represent the warning signs that the temptation is not right. Even though the singer acknowledges the harm they may cause, they continue to repeat the same mistake, apologising for it. Ultimately, the singer decides to draw the line and "kill all the fun." They know their partner will find someone else but they can't be out of place and time.
