Seasons
Said the Whale Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
'Cause when else is a body's warmth so warm
Underneath my clothes your hands are freezing
But I don't say a word
But maybe it's the Spring that is for lovers
'Cause that is when the world comes out in bloom
In the light of all the lengthening days
But now I'm thinking Summer is for lovers
'Cause when else will we find the time to leave?
Lay out in a field and watch our love growing
And swaying in the breeze
But could it be the Fall that is for lovers?
'Cause that is when the leaves get tired of being green
And then they turn into others
That are very rarely seen
The lyrics of Said The Whale’s song “Seasons” can be interpreted in many ways depending on the listener's perception. However, the lyrics mainly embody the emotions of a person who is trying to find a deeper meaning in the changing seasons and how these seasons may relate to love. The singer begins by expressing how they always believed that winter is a season for lovers. They believe the warmth of the body is more appreciated during these months. They acknowledge that even though their partner's hands may be cold, they don't speak up, implying that love is unspoken.
The singer then transitions into the thought of spring, which is a season of new beginnings and renewal. They suggest that spring is perhaps the season for lovers, with the world coming to life in bloom. They note that this time is rather short-lived and ends too soon, implying that love is fleeting. As they mention summer, they recognize that it is a season of endless possibilities, where love can be nurtured and cherished. The couple can have outdoor activities in expansive fields as their love grows and sways in the wind, implying that love can be nurtured to keep it burning with passion.
Finally, the song reflects on fall and how leaves turn from green to other colors and eventually disappear. This may symbolize the idea that love fades away just as the leaves do in this season. Overall, the song reflects on the variations in the seasons, and the changes that occur within them, which may allude to the transformation in relationships in a relationship perspective.
