The group considered themselves a thinking-man's band with intelligent and thought provoking lyrics.
Formed in Miami, Florida by Matt Kramer (vocals), Jason Bieler (guitar), Tom DeFile (bass) and Phil Varone (drums), the band managed to build up a solid following in their native Florida and eventually got signed to Atlantic records. It took a mere eleven days to record the debut album, and although it got rave reviews from critics, went mostly unnoticed by the record buying public.
The band hit it big with The Lizard and its #12 charting ballad "Love Is On The Way". The success of the ballad was a double-edged sword, it gave the band access to a huge new fan base, but several people grouped the band in with the other one hit wonders of the era. Shortly after the band's success DeFile left the band and was replaced by Chris McLernon. Prior to the recording of Water, Kramer also left the band and Bieler took over on vocals. The album was a commercial disappointment in America, but the band continued to have a loyal following overseas. Two more studio albums were recorded before the band decided to call it a day.
Bieler went on to form Super Transatlantic, and surprisingly the original Saigon Kick minus Bieler rejoined with Jeff Blando on guitar for some live shows. Varone also surfaced as the drummer for Skid Row during their 2003 comeback while Kramer pursues a solo career. The group continues to tour sporadically to this very day.

I'm completely agreed with that statement. Saigon Kicks was one of the most incredible bands and one of the most underrated of them all. thanks for this song

I've been an SK fan since I saw them open for RATT in like 90. I have never heard this tune, it's fucking great! Thanks for posting it, do you know where I can get a copy?

This song came out with Moments From the Fringe in 1997. As far as I know, it was recorded after DITD, but ultimately proved to be the last song with a brief reunion with Matt. I believe the song Superdown was originally to be a SK song before Jason formed Super TransAtlantic, which also was caught up in the whole recording industry shakeup in 1999. Superdown appeared on the American Pie soundtrack, as well as Shuttlecock from Super TransAtlantic, their only release.

for the most part, this statement is correct. saigon kick reformed for a very short period with matt and mclernon in late 1997. they recorded this song and played 2 gigs, one of which was a massive radio festival in florida, however the old issues bubbled to the surface during the 2nd gig, and the reunion was over in a mere days after it had started.
jason and a few others recorded superdown and about 15 other songs before joining forces with pat badger from extreme, and calling themselves “flat”. those demos became the bastards record, which was never truly a saigon kick record, however the japanese label refused to release it unless it came out under the sk name.
eventually, out of pure luck, a radio guy who jason knew began playing super down locally, and it helped flat get a deal. the song was put out as a single on the american pie soundtrack, and they were given a deal. the record however was the victim of record label politics, and was eventually delayed to the point that the band was over before it was ever released.

Superdown was originally mentioned on Wyatt World's website, if I remember correctly, who managed SK, stating the boys had a really awesome new tune. As mentioned in the previous post, that song ended up being recorded by Super TransAltantic. Jason also had a very diverse solo album, Houston We Have a Problem, released in the late 90's as well. Anyone fortunate to have hung around BVBmusic.com back then may have a number of rare, unreleased tunes...

...some recorded as SK for the Bastards album (in their original incarnation before being changed). Other songs were Jason solo songs, as well as songs with Super TransAtlantic. One of my personal favorites is "High", a Beatlesque ballad not to be confused with the same track name on Shuttlecock. Other unreleased songs were Say What You Will, Downtown, and Breakdown. These are worth seeking out, if you can find them.

I met and asked Matt about this song. He just mumbled something about it being a LA type thing. He didn't seem too enthused. IMO, it's awesome, and would have been a great step for them to do more collaborative stuff rather than just be Jason's poppy direction SK took after Matt left.

Wow. I told Jason not long ago "I'd love to know the lyrics to Dizzy's Vine." To which he responded "Me too!" There was a while where I observed him shoot down the possibility of collaborative stuff with Matt almost daily. I believe it is still the case... but don't take my word for it.
