The Lizard
Saigon Kick Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When I tell you people to do the lizard, pull yourself together and take a listen.
Take my flask and sip the liquid. Forgive me now for what I might deliver.
Look around. All around.
Lick your friends until they start to quiver. I ask myself if to give is richer.
Look around. All around.
Save yourself from falling down. All around.
There's no chance you can be found underground.
There's a thing we say about the foolish wisher.
Just do the dance and become the lizard.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Saigon Kick's song The Lizard are somewhat cryptic and open to interpretation. The song begins with the command to "do the lizard," which may refer to an actual dance move or could be a metaphor for something else. The next line, "pull yourself together and take a listen," suggests that the lizard dance may serve as a means of bringing oneself into focus or gaining clarity. The mention of a flask and liquid may imply the use of drugs or alcohol as a means of achieving this state of mind.

As the song progresses, the lyrics become increasingly surreal and nonsensical. The instruction to "lick your friends until they start to quiver" is especially bizarre, and suggests an element of sexual or sensual exploration. The repeated refrain of "look around. All around" may be an encouragement to take in one's surroundings and appreciate the world, even if it seems strange or intimidating.

The final lines of the song offer a sort of resolution, with the advice to "save yourself from falling down" and the assertion that one cannot be found "underground." This could imply a desire to rise above one's problems or concerns and live a more fulfilling life. The reference to the "foolish wisher" and the idea of becoming a lizard could be interpreted in various ways โ€“ perhaps as a warning against naive or foolish wishes, or as a call to embrace fluidity and adaptability in one's life.

Man, my friend turned 16 the same summer this came out and we used to drive all over our small town listening to this, Extremeโ€™s III Sides to Every Story, Megadethโ€™s Countdown to Extinction, and Primusโ€™ Sailing the Seas of Cheese. Damn. Take me back to when we didnโ€™t have to worry about anything more than finding gas money.

Great soundtrack to your youth.

Fantastic album !! Great memories of this show, and one close call that almost changed my life forever. About 15 minutes after catching a drum stick from Phil Varone, I was rocking out to Jason Beiler's guitar work when, beyond my left peripheral vision, a large stage diver flew back into the crowd. Nobody tried to catch him, and he snapped my head/neck onto my right shoulder as he headed for the floor. He and in both ended up in a heap on the ground. He was knocked unconscious, and I was sprawled out, unable to feel anything below my neck except a tingling sensation for about 20 seconds. Finally I started to get sensation back in my limbs, and some fellow rockers hoisted me up. Never so terrified that I could be paralyzed at a freaking concert. Still have Phil's drumstick. I tucked it into my boot immediately after I caught it ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿ˜›๐Ÿค˜

@danielf462

Wow. Amazing hope u r ok now. Keep rocking!

@johnhutchison9782

@@danielf462 none the worse for wear, thanks Daniel. The numbness and tingling went away by the following morning. Those moments spent laying on the floor, surrounded by the crowd, band playing, and I couldn't move were terrifying. The "oh shit I can't feel my arms or legs!!" thought going through my head was panic inducing. Some people saying "hey man, you okay?" and I'm looking at them thinking "f*** no, I can't feel a damn thing!!!"

@Jesus_Advocate41

I loved that these guys always played an encore. They scared the sh*t out of the headlining act and IMHO; stole the damn show every time. Super underrated band that never really got a decent break
