Born Again
Saint Motel Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well, there's no need to be nervous
I'm not dangerous anymore
Yeah, I cleaned up and found Jesus
And he's waiting at the door
Now here's a leaflet, try to read it
You have always been a friend
But when you see me next
Won't recognize the person that I am

I'm born again
Get born, get born, get born again
Get born, get born

Well, there's no use trying to fight it
Cause you fought it long enough
It starts with lies and leads to hate and hate to sex and sex to drugs
Is the bad news for the sinners?
And the silence for the saints?
When you break it down, the two of us are really just the same

I'm born again
Get born, get born, get born again
Get born, get born, get born again
I died and saw the light, my friend
Get born, get born, get born, get born

Get born, get born again
Get born, get born again
Get born, get born again
Get born, get born again
(Get born again)
Get born, get born again
(Get born again)
Get born, get born again
Get born, get born again
(Get born again)

Yeah, well there's no need to be nervous
I'm not dangerous anymore
Well, there's no need to be nervous
I'm not dangerous anymore
Yeah, I cleaned up and found Jesus
And he's waiting at the door
Now here's a leaflet, try to read it
You have always been a friend
But when you see me next
You won't recognize the motherfucker that I am

I'm born again
Get born, get born, get born again (oh yeah)
Get born, get born, get born again (I'm born again)
I died and saw the light, my friend (oh yeah)
Get born, get born, get born, get born

Get born, get born again
(Get born again)
Get born, get born again
Get born, get born again

(Get born again)
Get born, get born again

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Born Again" by Saint Motel expresses the transformation of the singer from a dangerous sinner to a born again Christian. The singer of the song claims that he has found salvation in Jesus, and he is now a changed person. He hands out leaflets, encouraging others to embrace a similar change. He believes that everyone is inherently sinful, and there is no point in fighting it. From lying to hate, then to sex and drugs, the cycle of sin is never-ending. The singer asserts that the only way to break free from this cycle is through a spiritual transformation, which he has undergone.

The chorus of the song, "Get born, get born, get born again," emphasizes the message of rebirth and salvation. The singer claims to have died and seen the light, referencing his spiritual awakening. However, despite his new beliefs, the singer still acknowledges that others may view him differently. He warns his friend that they won't recognize the "motherfucker" that he has become.

In short, "Born Again" is a song about the power of spiritual transformation and the profound changes that it can bring about in a person's life. It is a reminder that change is possible, even for those who consider themselves lost causes, and that it is never too late to seek forgiveness and redemption.
