Africa
Salif Keita Lyrics
Africa is my descent
and here I am far from home
I dwell within a land that is meant
for many men not my tone
The blood of god is my defense
let it drop down to my seed
showers to your innocence
to protect u for all eternity
and with this wood I beat this drum
and we wont see defeat
knowledge wisdom is
understanding what we need
Ever since the day u came
my whole world began to change
I knew then to dedicate my life
4 your own
everyday I see u grow
and remember what u already know
I receive the love
that radiates from your glow
From which u came was love
and that's how it all should be
u and my soul are I
though all the time and history

Salif Keita (b. 25 August 1949), is an internationally recognized afro-pop singer and songwriter from Djoliba, Mali. He has a reputation as the "Golden Voice of Africa", he is also a descendant of the Mali Empire's founder, Sundiata Keita.
He was outcast by his family & ostracized by the community, because he was an albino - a sign of bad luck in Mandinka culture. In 1967, he left Djoliba for Bamako, where he joined the government-sponsored Super Rail Band de Bamako (aka Super Rail Band). Keita and Les Ambassadeurs fled political unrest in Mali during the mid-1970s for Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire & changed the group's name to Les Ambassadeurs Internationales. The reputation of Les Ambassadeurs Internationales rose to the international level in the 1970s and in 1977 Keita received a National Order award from the president of Guinea, Sékou Touré.
Keita moved to Paris in 1984 to reach a larger audience. His music combines traditional West African music styles with influences from both Europe and the Americas, while maintaining an overall Islamic style. Musical instruments that are commonly featured in Keita's work include balafon, djembe, guitar, kora, organ, saxophone, and synthesizer.
His album, M'Bemba, was released in October 2005.

As a Zimbabwean born under the Bob Mugabe regime ,l had no choice but become a Pan-Africanist .Our airwaves blasted African music ,Salif Keita and the beautiful Cesaria Evora were the sound track to my childhood .Now living in the diaspora and a grown ass man ,l believe Zimbabweans are the most Pan-Africanist nation and when Bob said "Tony Blair keep your England and l will keep my Zimbabwe ",he was express self love equivalent to Mohamed Ali refusing to go to Vietnam .I am a deeply proud African ,wish l could share my pride .

Very true bro... I totally agree with you but tend to disagree that Bob (blessed memory) is the best pan-africanist of our era. Nope.. it's up for debate... We need to create categories and x-ray their works and contributions to the pan-african struggle through those mirrors... Only then can we be able to say categorically who that big show fits... I think mine is Thomas Sankara...
