Growing up in a musical family, Sam began singing in church at the age of five. By the time he was ten, Sam was already penning his own lyrics. Inspired by his sister who played the piano, he taught himself to play guitar, bass, piano, and drums. Sam was born a natural singer without any formal vocal coaching. His father, also a singer, is a big influence.
Sam draws his influences from such greats as Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Eric Clapton, and Gavin DeGraw. He enjoys performing anything acoustic that has soul and is fond of rock, pop, soul, blues, jazz, and country music.
Sam has recently co-written with Jeff Scott Soto (former lead singer of the legendary rock band Journey, Talisman, Soul SirkUS, Yngwie Malmsteen). A few songs are to be released on Jeff’s new solo CD. This is what Jeff had to say about Sam: “Bro, you are the freshest new artist out there. I will be telling the world about you and if there is anything I can do to help you along, rest assured I will. People need to hear Sam Grow. You will be a superstar my friend!”
Sam has also performed with Grammy award winner Kanye West, Kat Parsons, one of the highest selling independent artists in the US, and national touring artist singer/songwriter/pianist Dave Yaden (Marc Broussard, Josh Kelley, Sheryl Crow, Willie Nelson).
Sam’s latest release “Ignition” is an infusion of Rock, Pop, and Soul that creates an enticing, new listening experience sure to satisfy the ear of a wide range audience. The first cut, “Oh So Jaded”, has become a crowd favorite. “Work in Progress”, Sam’s first CD release, is a five song EP full of Sam’s soulful, bluesy sound. The single “Meant to Be” was the featured track of the day on September 28, 2006 on GarageBand.com and the song peaked at 4.8 out of 5 stars.
This is just the start of Sam’s promising career and he has already started a buzz among the industry.
Look Good on You
Sam Grow Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics of "Look Good on You" by Sam Grow revolve around the singer's attraction and desire towards a woman he is observing while she gets ready before a night out. He walks in on her dancing with her clothes scattered on the mattress and a white towel wrapped around her. The woman is humming her get-ready song, and the singer is watching her get made up, which sparks a feeling within him that he doesn't want to leave the moment. He confesses that he can't help but want her and that he believes he has something that would fit her just right, and he wants her to try him. He wants to be with her and hold her like a silhouette, and he wants to kiss her skin like the summer wind. The singer is convinced that he would look good on her and that she would look good on him, and he can't help but try to convince her to give him a chance.
The lyrics contain a lot of imagery that describes the scene and feelings of the moment. The singer paints a picture of the woman he desires, her clothes scattered on the bed, and her humming her get-ready song while getting made up. He wants to be close to her and hold her close, trace her with his fingertips, and be the summer wind kissing her skin. The lyrics describe the singer's attraction towards the woman, and how he wants to convince her to give him a chance and try him on. The chorus emphasizes this desire as the singer repeats, "Baby, I would look good on you" several times.
