Growing up in a musical family, Sam began singing in church at the age of five. By the time he was ten, Sam was already penning his own lyrics. Inspired by his sister who played the piano, he taught himself to play guitar, bass, piano, and drums. Sam was born a natural singer without any formal vocal coaching. His father, also a singer, is a big influence.
Sam draws his influences from such greats as Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Eric Clapton, and Gavin DeGraw. He enjoys performing anything acoustic that has soul and is fond of rock, pop, soul, blues, jazz, and country music.
Sam has recently co-written with Jeff Scott Soto (former lead singer of the legendary rock band Journey, Talisman, Soul SirkUS, Yngwie Malmsteen). A few songs are to be released on Jeff’s new solo CD. This is what Jeff had to say about Sam: “Bro, you are the freshest new artist out there. I will be telling the world about you and if there is anything I can do to help you along, rest assured I will. People need to hear Sam Grow. You will be a superstar my friend!”
Sam has also performed with Grammy award winner Kanye West, Kat Parsons, one of the highest selling independent artists in the US, and national touring artist singer/songwriter/pianist Dave Yaden (Marc Broussard, Josh Kelley, Sheryl Crow, Willie Nelson).
Sam’s latest release “Ignition” is an infusion of Rock, Pop, and Soul that creates an enticing, new listening experience sure to satisfy the ear of a wide range audience. The first cut, “Oh So Jaded”, has become a crowd favorite. “Work in Progress”, Sam’s first CD release, is a five song EP full of Sam’s soulful, bluesy sound. The single “Meant to Be” was the featured track of the day on September 28, 2006 on GarageBand.com and the song peaked at 4.8 out of 5 stars.
This is just the start of Sam’s promising career and he has already started a buzz among the industry.
You
Sam Grow Lyrics

In the song "You" by Sam Grow, the lyrics in the first verse express the singer's desire for a girl with a distinct accent, particularly a southern drawl. He describes a girl who exudes a charming and welcoming vibe, with a touch of sassiness through phrases like "hey ya'll" and endearing terms like "sugar honey." The singer values a woman who can pass the test of winning over his mother and who can easily fit in with his friends over casual beers. The repetition of the line “I need a girl with an accent” emphasizes the singer’s strong preference for someone who embodies the essence of being born and raised in the South.
Moving into the chorus, the singer contemplates if the person he is admiring could potentially be "the one" as he marvels at her physical beauty and sweet charm. He compares her to a perfect ten on a scale, likening her to a rare find that he hasn't encountered in a long time. The vivid imagery of her blue eyes and the reference to classic American treats like cherry lips tasting like apple pie shine paint a picture of a girl who is both visually appealing and evokes nostalgic feelings.
In the second verse, the singer delves deeper into his ideal woman, desiring someone from the countryside who embodies both innocence and a wild streak. He longs for a woman who is tough and resilient, having experienced life's challenges and emerged stronger. The mention of feet in the mud and being washed in the blood symbolizes a woman who is rooted in her origins but unafraid to take risks and stand her ground. The repetition of the chorus signifies the singer's continued contemplation of whether this girl he admires truly fits the bill of his ideal partner.
The final chorus brings the song to a climax as the singer declares that indeed, it is this girl he has been searching for. The repeated lines of "Whoa oh ohhh oh, Whoah oh ohh oh" create a sense of anticipation and certainty as he affirms that she is the one who captivates him completely. The overall storyline of the song revolves around the singer's yearning for a girl with a southern accent and a strong personality, ultimately realizing that she embodies everything he desires in a partner.
