1) Sanctuar… Read Full Bio ↴There are at least nine artists with the name Sanctuary:
1) Sanctuary is a heavy metal band founded in Seattle, Washington in 1985 consisting of Warrel Dane (vocals), Lenny Rutledge (guitar), Sean Blosl (guitar), Jim Sheppard (bass), and Dave Budbill (drums). Former Metallica and Megadeth guitarist Dave Mustaine was the influential force in getting the band signed to Epic Records. He produced their first album and played guitar on their cover of Jefferson Airplane's White Rabbit. The band was dissolved in 1991, following pressure from Epic Records to fit in with the flourishing Seattle grunge scene. Warrel Dane and Jim Sheppard disagreed with this change, and left to form Nevermore.
In May 2010 Warrel Dane stated that Santuary were to reform with the original line-up to record a new album and tour.

Arise and Purify
Sanctuary Lyrics

and then she was born
As she ascended into power, her words
her messages became legend as did her visions of the death of our sun"
We are unchanged, we are forgotten
Born of the blessed and the sick, we are the rotten ones
Trust in me and all your sorrows
Arise and purify
Subjugate and justify
Erase and adjudicate
Leader of the masses
Free the storm
They are the strange within the fallen
Born of the lecherous and sick, the plague is calling
Mind the rules that can't be broken
Through hollow days and words unspoken
Arise and purify
Subjugate and justify
Erase and adjudicate
Leader of the masses
Free the proles
Arise and purify
Subjugate and justify
Erase and adjudicate
Leader of the masses
Free the storm
Arise and purify
Subjugate and justify
Erase and adjudicate
Leader of the masses
Free the Proles
Arise, purify
The first line of the song "In the beginning there was nothing to give humanity hope" implies that the world is hopeless and meaningless until the birth of a female character. This character rises to power through her messages and visions, becoming legendary. The lyrics suggest that this character brings hope and meaning to the world through her leadership, but also suggest a darker, more authoritative side to her rule as she subjugates, erases, and adjudicates.
The chorus "Arise and purify, subjugate and justify, erase and adjudicate, leader of the masses, free the storm" seems to be a call to action to follow this female leader in creating a better world. However, there is also a sense of manipulation and control in the language used, particularly in the words "subjugate" and "erase". The second verse follows a similar theme, with the addition of the line "mind the rules that can't be broken", reinforcing the idea of obedience and control.
Overall, the lyrics of the song suggest a complex and potentially problematic view of leadership and authority. There is both hope and danger presented in the idea of following a powerful leader, and the language used suggests a desire for control and obedience.

Warrel Dane had the most unique (metal)voice in history. He could give every song (lyric line) the emotion it needs. Its a shame he did not get the attention he deserved to :( RIP

When Nevermore formed, they were bashed for being a rehash of Sanctuary.
Sanctuary are reformed, they are bashed for being a rehash of Nevermore.
Seriously?
Just enjoy the new music - which is awesome!

@cero815 I sort of think the beginning of Nevermore started in that vein but then became it's own animal.

as far as I know, Nevermore was Sanctuary with Loomis instead of Rutledge, who threatened his ex band members with a lawsuit in case they continued using the band name.

Awesome track. Original, heavy riffs and excellent vocals. You mean this is similar to Nevermore ? Cool. Nevermore is the best metal band on this planet.
