Last Christmas
Sandra Nasić Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Last Christmas, I gave you my heart
But the very next day, you gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special

Last Christmas, I gave you my heart
But the very next day, you gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special

Once bitten and twice shy
I keep my distance but you still catch my eye
Tell me baby do you recognize me?
Well it's been a year, it doesn't surprise me

I wrapped it up and sent it
With a note saying "I Love You" I meant it
Now I know what a fool I've been
But if you kissed me now I know you'd fool me again

Last Christmas, I gave you my heart
But the very next day, you gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special

Last Christmas, I gave you my heart
But the very next day, you gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special

A face on a lover with a fire in his heart
A man undercover but you tore him apart
Maybe next year, I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone special
Special, someone, someone
I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone special

Who'll give me something in return
I'll give it to someone, hold my heart and watch it burn

I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone special
I thought you were here to stay
How can love be for a day?
I thought you were someone special, gave you my heart

I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone
Last Christmas I gave you my heart

You gave it away
I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone

Overall Meaning

The song Last Christmas by Sandra Nasic is a heart-wrenching but relatable tune about a relationship that didn't work out. The lyrics tell the story of someone who gave their heart to someone they thought was special, but was let down when their love was not returned. The first verse describes how the singer gave their heart to their lover, only to have it given away the next day. They're determined not to make the same mistake again this year and will give their heart to someone special to spare themselves from any further heartbreak.

The second verse shows the singer struggling with their feelings towards their previous lover. They've tried to put some distance between them but still can't help being drawn to them. The chorus repeats the same lines from the first verse, emphasizing the heartache and the hope for a better future. The bridge introduces a new character, a man who had his heart broken by the same lover. The singer contemplates whether to give her heart to someone else, wondering who will take care of it and hold it dear. The song ends on a wistful note, with the singer still hoping for love, but cautious not to have it taken for granted again.

One of my most favorite Christmas songs. This is the best remake version of this song. Remakes usually suck, but this seems to be the exception. Bravo Cascada, you are the best as always. You are the best performer of the genre of electropop. Today is the first day of the new year, January 1, 2023. Happy New Year everyone

The best version of "Last Christmas", a part from that of Wham!, in my opinion. Her voice is really fantastic and the music is incredibly energetic and full of Christmas atmosphere.

@rondeneef

little Glee girl put power on it

@HirotosAdventure23

My favorite Christmas dance hit of all time. This is always the number 1 song on my playlist during Christmas season. ❤️❤️❤️

I wish Cascada was still sorta mainstream today. These were the good old days of mid-late 2000s ❤

@PillAdam

I agree. I would love to go back in time to 2003/2005 times, when I knew about my self and i felt the christmas, birth days, dreams somehow different.. Those times were so cool and its so good to think back. 💓💖

What happened anyways? I liked it when her music was on KOST, but none of them plays anywhere. The only way I can listen to her music is via YouTube.

@arcticflower7223

I thought they were mega mainstream. I mean they were in eurovision 2013...

@whitewolf3051

@@arcticflower7223 That's just one market place. Before then, she was on air...I think, and I could be wrong, all over. Now, for especially those of us in the US, you hardly, if ever, hear her music. And unless you buy from online music store to download digitally, or search them via either Amazon, Ebay, or the like, her CDs aren't available physically in any stores. I tried looking for her CDs physically at any stores, but no success.
