“The goal of my music is to express an experience, a moment, a feeling, a place and time,” Sandra says. “I want to tell a story, to encourage, uplift, inspire, bring pleasure and to piece together a series of collages of all that I am and feel as an artist.”
Sandra began playing the guitar when she was thirteen years old and soon wrote her first song. It was an experience of expression that began to define the unique sound and keen perspective that fans have come to love and appreciate in Sandra’s music.
Under Sandra’s leadership, The Smallworld Band is a sound infusion of genres from every era, and flavor of contemporary classic funk, jazz and rock music, offering a taste for all inhabitants of this small world. They have established a deep following of fans always waiting in anticipation, with inspiration, for the next album release, and Sandra’s next exciting performance. The newest album, "Illusions," was released in May 2009 and the band have been playing and promoting the album to enthusiastic responses and critical acclaim at many venues around New York City.
Already looking to the future, Sandra is at work developing new material for the next collection of music, which will showcase Sandra’s comfort in her growth as an artist, and performer. Sandra has always been an artist who studies her craft. She remains hungry to continually learn more and more about the science of making musical masterpieces, exploring the incredible range of her talents.
Essential to Sandra's inspirations in her music are the subjects, themes and ideas that relate to caring for the less fortunate. In September 2009, Sandra put together her first benefit concert, "Rock Against Homelessness," in conjunction with the Neighborhood Coalition for Shelter, a nonprofit organization that helps the homeless and formerly homeless, which Sandra has been involved with for more than 5 years. The event featured more than a dozen rising NYC artists and raised money, awareness, and item donations in support of the cause.
Building on her success to date, Sandra is preparing herself for a long career in music. Sandra continues to open new doors, new opportunities, and travel new roads in her musical journey. She is excited to bring her new music to new fans around the world in the coming years.
