She Can't Let Go
Santana Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

She has the innocence and vision of a child
How can I ever really know her?
We're riding on a carousel
That's running wild
Around in circles 'til it's over

And every time we reach the end
We go around again 'cause

[Chorus]
She can't let go
And I don't want to tell her no
She can't let go
And I don't want to tell her no

I see her starin' out the window at the rain
But she will never leave the fire
Sometimes it burns all night and covers up the pain
Sometimes it only leaves us tired

And every time we reach the end
We go around again 'cause

[Chorus]

Overall Meaning

In Santana's song "She Can't Let Go," the lyrics tell a story of a love that is both exhilarating and frustrating. The singer describes the object of his affection as having the "innocence and vision of a child," which suggests her pure, unjaded spirit. However, this innocence also makes it difficult for the singer to fully understand her, and he laments that he might never be able to do so. The couple is described as being on a "carousel that's running wild", which suggests a whirlwind romance that is both thrilling and dizzying. Despite this, the singer can't help but feel trapped by the cycle - every time they reach the end, they start over again.

The chorus of the song is a reflection of the push and pull dynamic between the couple. The singer acknowledges that the woman "can't let go," possibly referring to the intensity of their love, but he also admits that he "doesn't want to tell her no." Perhaps he too is caught up in the cycle and can't resist the pull of their intense connection.

This song popped into my mind recently. Didn't know it was this old, thought it was the mid 1990s some time. It's rare, though, because I never heard it that frequently. Thank God for YouTube!

Possibly my most favourite of Carlos Santana and it has lots of competition. Never fails to get my spine tingling.

You seem to have the same sort of taste as me. Thought you might like the music below. Andy Latimer is a very melodic and soulful guitarist well worth checking out if you haven't already. If you have any suggestions for me I would love to try them.

What a great year was 1987 for santana, he had two albums in that year, one with santana band and a second solo album, he won the grammy award for the first time in his career with the instrumental blues for Salvador and it was the year that I saw santana live for the first and only show in my life, the year 1987 was a high point in santana career, the show was literary explosive
