There has been a discrepancy about whether Saosin is pronounced "SAY-oh-sin" or "Say-OH-shin". It was accepted by most to be pronounced either way, but former lead vocalist and founding member of Saosin, Anthony Green, offers his explanation on the official Saosin website's "SAOSIN FAQ":
"What does their name mean, and how is it pronounced?"
Thanks to nailed shut, here is a quote from former singer Anthony:
"It’s pronounced SAY-OCEAN. And it’s a Chinese proverb from the 15th and 16th centuries. It means 'small heart'. Fathers used to marry off their youngest sons for money and used to tell them that they weren’t marrying for love, that their wife doesn’t matter. She could die at anytime so don’t get attached. They had to love with caution and raise their sons to be cold and unfeeling as well. I found it in the 8th grade and loved it, I used to name all my old bands that and write songs about it."
Also, "saosin" is actually spelt "xiao xin" in correct Chinese, and pronounced "shaow shin". It also means "be careful" in Chinese.
(added by ddgcreative: Just came back from a live show with Cove, the new lead singer... and they said, in front of a crowd of about 8,000 people, "we are say-o-sin", pronounced sin.)
(note by MarkoBabic: The band's official stance on the issue is that both pronunciations can be considered correct, as it was really only Anthony who stuck by the pronunciation "Say-ocean". This was mentioned in review back in September, 2006 on absolutepunk.net (full interview can be found here).

They Perched on Their Stilts Pointing and Daring Me to Break Custom
Saosin Lyrics

I scratched out
Something like a silhouette
Around the golden ten like lambs
On my face
I've hidden
Away any embarrassment
Away from my acquaintances
I'm not
Sold on
Anything but half a dream
I'm not sensing a thing
I see a blank notebook page
And its my life and
There's nothing I can think to write
I'm not se-sensing a thing
I hope you don't see a thing, smile
Through every word you ever see
So what, you gave him the time of day
Twist back
And I am so green
All, dance around
I honestly give up
And de-robe
I see a blank notebook page
And its my life and
There's nothing I can think to write
I'm not se-sensing a thing
Right side falls
Heavenly grace to you, I owe you to
Right side because
Heavenly love should be so easy
The lyrics of Saosin's "They Perched on Their Stilts Pointing and Daring Me to Break Custom" paint a picture of the singer feeling lost, confused, and disconnected from everything around them. The first verse mentions a silhouette drawn on the face, perhaps indicating a desire to hide or blend in with their surroundings. The golden ten may refer to the Ten Commandments or other religious doctrine, suggesting a conflict with faith or morality. The singer tries to hide their embarrassment, not wanting to be seen as vulnerable or flawed.
The second verse speaks to a feeling of aimlessness and writer's block. The blank notebook page represents the singer's life and lack of direction. Despite wanting to write something meaningful, they cannot think of anything to say. The repetition of "I'm not se-sensing a thing" feels like a mantra of numbness or apathy. The singer hopes that no one will notice their struggle, putting on a smile and pretending that everything is okay.
The final lines of the song provide some hope, suggesting that love and grace are still possible. However, the journey towards that state of being is not easy. The twisting and dancing around may represent the struggles and challenges of life, and the decision to de-robe could indicate a vulnerability or willingness to be seen as oneself.
