You're Not Alone
Saosin Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's just like him
To wander off in the evergreen park
Slowly searching
For any sign of the ones he used to love
He says he's got nothing left to live for
(He says he's got nothing left)
And this time I think you'll know
You're not alone
There is more to this, I know
You can make it out
You will live to tell

She's just like him
Spoiled rotten confused by the life she's been fed
And she's searching for no one (but herself)
Her eyes turn to green
And she seems to be happy
That she is her
And this time I think you'll know

You're not alone
There is more to this, I know
You can make it out
You will live to tell
You're not alone
There is more to this, I know
You can make it out

(Aah aah aah aah aah aah aah)
(There is more to know)

We're not alone
There is more to this, I know
You can make it out
You will live to tell
(So tell me)

You're not alone
There is more to this, I know
You can make it out (make it out)
You will live to tell (live to tell)
You're not alone
There is more to this, I know
(And I can) you can make it out
You will live to tell

You were not alone
You're not

You're not
Alone

Overall Meaning

Saosin’s “You’re Not Alone” is a song about overcoming feelings of loneliness and despair that can lead to suicidal thoughts. The opening verse describes the male protagonist wandering alone in nature while searching for the people he used to love, feeling like he has nothing left to live for. The female character is introduced in the second verse, with lyrics that suggest she is struggling with feeling entitled and unfulfilled in life. However, by the end of the song, the chorus offers a message of hope, telling the listener that they are not alone and there is more to life than what they are feeling in the moment. The repetition of the chorus emphasizes this message of hope and reminds the listener that even though they might feel lost, there is always a way out.

The song’s poignant lyrics, combined with the band’s emo-rock sound, resonated with young people who were struggling with depression and feelings of isolation. The song has become an anthem for those who are overcoming hardships and need some encouragement to keep going. The song’s appeal has contributed to its widespread popularity, with the music video garnering over 30 million views on YouTube.

Trigger warning; unaliving

I know this song is a bit silly but when I was 13 I lived in an abusive household and I seriously considered un aliving myself.

This song genuinely kept me alive. I would sit in the basement on the old family computer and I would ball my eyes out, listening to this. I don’t think I would be here today if it wasn’t for this song.

13 year old me thanks you Sasoin. My birthday is in a couple days I’m gonna be 28. 28-year-old me thanks you.

I’m in a much better place. Things are still hard, but at least I’m still here.

Thank you ❤

Lyrics

It's just like him
To wander off in the evergreen park
Slowly searching for any sign
Of the ones he used to love.

He says he's got nothing left to live for
(He says he's got nothing left...)
And this time I think you'll know.

You're not alone
There is more to this, I know
You can make it out
You will live to tell

She's just like him
Spoiled rotten
Confused by the lies she's been fed
And she's searching for no one.
(But herself)
Her eyes turn to green and she seems to be happy
That she is here
And this time I think you'll know...

You're not alone
There is more to this, I know
You can make it out
You will live to tell

You're not alone
There is more to this, I know
You can make it out

We're not alone
There is more to this, I know
You can make it out
You will live to tell.
(So tell me)

You're not alone
There is more to this, I know
You can make it out
(Make it out)
You will live to tell
(Live to tell)
You're not alone
There is more to this, I know
(And I know)
You can make it out
You will live to tell.

You are not alone.
You're not, you're not alone

This song saved me after I came back from Fallujah, Iraq. I wanted to quiet the voices but this song lifted mine. Still listening in 2024. Thank you, Saosin. I’m writing this because of you.

I feel like I didn't appreciate these years enough. I'm nearly 30 and missing these times 😩

@maxsun13

I just turned 30 too. One day you'll look back on today. Make the most out of your regrets and make your 30th year awesome. You didn't waste anything by the way you had to go through exactly what you did to get here today as the wiser better you. Rejoice! We still have the present, the past is set in stone and can't be helped.

I am so glad someone else is in the same boat with me I was starting to wonder!
