Born to Fly
Sara Evans Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've been tellin' my dreams to the scarecrow
About the places that I'd like to see
I say, "Friend, do you think I'll ever get there?"
Aww, but he just stands there smilin' back at me

So I confess my sins to the preacher
About the love I'd been prayin' to find
Is there a brown-eyed boy in my future, yeah
And he says, "Girl, you got nothin' but time"

But how do you wait for heaven
And who has that much time
And how do you keep your feet on the ground
When you know
That you were born, you were born to fly

My daddy, he is grounded like the oak tree
My mama, she is as steady as the sun
Oh, you know I love my folks, but I keep starin' down the road
Just lookin' for my one chance to run

Hey, 'cause I will soar away like the blackbird
I will blow in the wind like a seed
I will plant my heart in the garden of my dreams
And I will grow up where I want, wild and free

Oh, how do you wait for heaven
And who has that much time
And how do you keep your feet on the ground
When you know
That you were born, you were born, yeah, you born to fly

So how do you wait for heaven
And who has that much time
And how do you keep your feet on the ground
When you know
That you were born, you were born to fly

Yeah
You were born to fly, fly, fly, fly

Hey
Oh-oh

Overall Meaning

In "Born to Fly," Sara Evans shares her aspirations and hopes for the future. She begins by telling her dreams to a scarecrow and wonders if she will ever achieve them. She then confesses her desire for love to a preacher and questions if she has enough time to wait for it. She wonders how to keep her feet on the ground while maintaining her high ambitions. Evans emphasizes that she was born to fly and cannot wait for heaven or a specific moment to fulfill her dreams. She loves her family and roots but yearns to break free and find her own path. She envisions soaring like a blackbird, scattering like a seed in the wind, and growing wild and free in the garden of her dreams.

The song has a motivational message that encourages listeners to pursue their passions relentlessly. It reminds them that they were born to fly and that they should not wait for the perfect opportunity to realize their dreams. Life is short, and one should take risks and follow their aspirations, even if it means leaving behind what is familiar and comfortable.

I was born with cerebral palsy and I'm in a wheelchair ♿ and daddy told me to never let my disability stop me. This song makes me rock my wheelchair or bed every time it comes on.

I'm not sure if you've heard of her, but my cousin's daughter might be someone you can relate to. She's inspired a lot of people. I've never seen anyone who works as hard as her, or who has more positivity than her. https://des.az.gov/es/node/25474

I was also born with Cerebral Palsy and I walk with a limp. My right 🦵 turns in when I walk. I don't let my disability get to me either. I have been in a wheelchair ♿️ , I've walked with a walker, I've had braces on my 🦵 and 4 casts on my right 🦵. I'm just glad I can walk. The sky is the Limit, don't let people tell you that you can't do anything because you can!!

She didn't start real young and didn't want to be rich but wanted to be happy. Who can blame her make enough to live with and time off
