Violinist, singer and composer: three words that describe Sara Parkman. However, they are not enough to cover the width of what she has achieved during her career, which already stretches over more than 15 years. Her debut album as a solo artist was entitled Sara Parkmans Skog (2016), and it was awarded ‘Artist of the year’ at Folk & Världsmusikgalan, a Swedish gala to celebrate folk and world music. But Sara Parkman's most acclaimed release to date was 2019's Vesper. Named after the Christian evening prayer, this album was an exploration of the sacred through music. It was received by unanimously impressed critics and earned her a Swedish Grammy nomination as well as the newspaper Dagens Nyheter's Culture Prize.
Fädur
Sara Parkman Lyrics

En dag dör ock du
Ett vet jag som aldrig dör:
Dom över död man
Fädur, fränder dör
En dag dör ock du
Ett vet jag som aldrig dör:
Fädur, fränder dör
En dag dör ock du
Ett vet jag som aldrig dör:
Dom över död man
The lyrics of Sara Parkman's song "Fädur" deal primarily with the inevitability of death and the way that it affects both individuals and families. The repetition of the first two lines throughout the song reinforces this sense of mortality, and the final line - "Dom över död man" - highlights the way that death seems to exert a kind of profound authority over us all.
The use of the term "Fädur" in the title and throughout the song also suggests a kind of generational transmission of values and traditions. The idea that "fränder" - or relatives - will also die underlines the idea that death is a part of the cycle of life and that it will affect all of us at some point.
Overall, "Fädur" is a somber meditation on the ultimate fate that awaits all of us. It draws our attention to the importance of family and the need to cherish our loved ones while they are still with us, knowing that one day they will join the ranks of the "död man."
