If I could just fit in I would
I'm the new chick in the neighborhood
I don't dress the way I could
Sometimes I'm bad but it's all-good
I'm easily misunderstood
I'm just a little strange
I'm a little bit strange, don't you know
I'm not afraid to tell you so
I'm the next big thing in your little freak show
Don't you know?
I'm a little bit strange, don't you think
My moods can run from black to pink
I'm a little bit strange, but here comes the twist
I might get even stranger than this
I see the beauty in my pain
I kiss the sun and drink the rain
I'm really good at playing games
Everyday I change my name
I'm just a little strange
I'm a little bit strange, don't you know
I'm not afraid to tell you so
I'm the next big thing in your little freak show
Don't you know?
I'm a little bit strange, don't you think
My moods can run from black to pink
I'm a little bit strange, but here comes the twist
I might get even stranger
I only see when I don't look
I never want the things I took
I like the pictures in the dirty books
Like a drug, I'll get you hooked
I'm just a little strange
I'm a little bit strange, don't you know
I'm not afraid to tell you so
I'm the next big thing in your little freak show
Don't you know?
I'm a little bit strange, don't you think
My moods can run from black to pink
I'm a little bit strange, but here comes the twist
I actually like it like this
The song "Strange" by Sarah Hudson explores themes of individuality, nonconformity, and the complexities of embracing oneself in a society that values conformity. The first verse highlights the singer's awareness of her differences from others and the pressure she feels to "fit in." She acknowledges that she doesn't talk or dress like others in her neighborhood, but assures the listener that being "strange" is just a part of who she is, and she's okay with that.
The chorus further reinforces the singer's self-acceptance and pride in her uniqueness. She boldly declares that she is "a little bit strange," and that she's not afraid to admit it. She also embraces the idea of being a part of a "freak show," which could be interpreted as a nod to the idea that being different is often seen as a spectacle in the eyes of others.
In the second verse, the singer delves deeper into her unconventional nature, describing how she sees "beauty in [her] pain," and that she's "really good at playing games." She also shares that she changes her name every day, further emphasizing her fluid and multifaceted identity. The repeated phrase "I'm just a little strange" serves to both ground the song thematically and reinforce the singer's self-awareness and confidence.
Overall, "Strange" is a song that celebrates the beauty and complexity of individuality, highlighting the importance of self-expression and self-acceptance in a world that often values conformity. It's a message that resonates with anyone who has ever felt like they didn't quite fit in, and serves as a reminder that being true to oneself is always worth celebrating.
